You can hear it outside of sound-proofed rooms and ramp your music up to the point where it literally shakes your home’s foundations. Once again, it would have been nice to see some smart features included at this price, but you do get a decent amount of technology for your money. You can select between a 3.5mm input, a pair of RCAs, or an HDMI cable using a small button on the brass control panel. This also doubles as the Bluetooth connection button, which is likely to be the most common method of streaming, and this model has the upgraded Bluetooth 5.2 logic over the Woburn 2’s 5.0. Perhaps the more reasonable complaint is its shape. Marshall’s somewhat belligerent commitment to making rectangular speaker boxes that look like guitar amps means it’s not the ideal shape for going under a TV (there’s a reason sound bars are long and thin) so unless you’ve got a lot of space it’s likely you’ll have to position it off to one side. About as heavy as a solid state practice amp and just as big, the Woburn II is an imposing sight compared to your usual loudspeaker. But that’s not to say it’s unattractive – far from it, with its leather-look cabinet and gold accents, raised off the ground on four sturdy feet.

Extremely few, and even then, you’ll think I’m clutching at straws. First up – there’s no carrying handle like my old guitar amp had. I should point out this is not supposed to be a portable speaker, and in fact, Marshall does make portable speakers with straps, but hear me out. The Woburn II makes use of Bluetooth 5.0, which gave it solid connectivity to our mobile devices at all times, with the 10 metre range claim good by our estimations. The Bluetooth standard used here supports multi-host Bluetooth, letting you connect two devices at once, saving squabbles between friends over who gets to play what. However, the bassier tone makes one of the Stanmore’s existing sound issues worse. Bass is nowhere near as sculpted nor controlled as that displayed by the Sonos Play:5.

Marshall refuses to compromise on sound quality, which means that you can rest assured that you’ll have a truly loss-less connection for your devices. You can connect to a Bluetooth device from anywhere up to ten metres away! What with the Woburn II being such a beast, it also came as no surprise that it handles bottom end with confidence (it helps that the unit contains a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing port). This was particularly noticeable on Another One Bites The Dust, the speaker's full-phat performance doing full justice to John Deacon's swaggering refrain. Marshall is no stranger to audio equipment and has been at the forefront of the speaker and amp industry for decades. In recent years the audio giant has shifted its gears towards more modern products like Bluetooth speakers and portable speakers.Where this particular speaker really excels though is its ability to provide those sensations without needing to be turned up to 11. This means you can enjoy it whenever you want, whether you live in a converted barn or a terraced house, you can still be enveloped in sound. The Stanmore, Acton, and Marshal Woburn speaker are all examples of incredible Bluetooth speakers designed by the Marshall brand.

Whatever audio source you’re hooking up to the Woburn II, one thing’s for certain – this speaker goes insanely loud. Making use of two tweeters and dual 5.25-inch subwoofers, individually powered by class D amps, cranked up to its full 110 watt output power it could even be heard rumbling outside of TechRadar’s sound-proofed test room (apologies to those working nearby…) While we're on the subject of vocal range - this is always a challenge for a small speaker to create a rounded sound simply because Freddie seems to have been recorded at twice the volume of everyone else (that's not a complaint) until about halfway through. Usually, this means constant fiddling with the volume but the Woburn's tone is so balanced and the vocals so rich it's hard not to just spin it up to 11. The Ring Goes South by Howard Shore

I was expecting the Woburn to sound good when playing guitar-based music, recreating the rich and warm Valvestate tone I'd overdosed on as a teenager while playing in heavy metal bands. One of the reasons I now have quite bad tinnitus.
