All of Grenade’s flavours give regular chocolate bars a run for their money, but the Oreo bar takes it to the next level. Texture-wise this bar is a variation on Grenade’s newer formula. It’s soft and fluffy, with a nice crunch from the crispies. It’s a nice, chocolate-y bar but it’s interesting that Grenade decided to come out with this when their Fudge Brownie bar is such a classic. The centre is soft, fudgey and slightly chewy, just like the previous two bars but this time with a nice chocolate flavour. The caramel layer adds a richness and a hint of salt which mixes well with the chocolate coating to create an overall flavour that reminds of, well, a fudge brownie! Carb Killas are a protein bar designed by the company Grenade. They taste just like a chocolate bar, but instead contain much more protein (20g+) and have far less sugar (2g). As of writing this article there are 13 different flavours, ranging from white chocolate, caramel, chocolate fudge brownie and birthday cake! We will look at more flavours shortly. Do they work?

I have to say, the overall flavour is similar to that of the OG bar– maybe a little too familiar for some – probably owing to the caramel layer. There is some peanut flavour, but it’s much gentler than I, and other peanut lovers like me, would perhaps have liked. One thing I will flag is something I’ve noticed in all Grenade’s more recent offerings – the slightly higher carb count. This bar features a peanut butter flavoured base topped with a gooey strawberry layer and spindled with peanut pieces, then coated in milk chocolate.In terms of flavour, the white chocolate is more of a hint, but this is strawberry ice cream, so what did we expect? It’s certainly a good bar, but then we’ve come to expect that from Grenade by now. It’s nothing groundbreaking and it’ll never replace a Terry’s Chocolate Orange, but it is a decent bar I’ve been vegetarian all my life – that’s 35 years. People said it would be bacon, or I’d cave in when I saw a “real steak”. It was none of these things. It was these demon bars, that tasted so bloody good that I had to eat more. Appearance wise, it looks the same as the rest of the range, but with a nice looking dark chocolate coating, and there’s a strong smell of mint (duh) when you open it.

The newest addition to the Grenade’s already highly respected range. The Carb Killa bar is already known as one of the best tasting protein bars available. Overall this wouldn’t be my go-to flavour – the banana flavour is just too artificial. It gets a 5/10 primarily because of the great texture and macros we’ve come to expect from the Carb Killa range. Peanut Nutter – 8/10 The flavour that Ben and Jerry made famous and in doing so launched a whole sub-genre of hybrid flavours to our tables. Vibe :Texture-wise, it’s pretty similar to the other Grenade bar flavours, except the creme offers a smoother, creamier, texture than Grenade’s usual caramel layer and the Oreo pieces are less crunchy than the crispies found on the likes of Caramel Chaos and Jaffa Quake.

As usual, I have nothing bad to say about Grenade’s chocolate. It’s high quality, melts instantly and adds a delightful creaminess. Yet I think this bar could have been majorly improved if the chocolate flavour was more intense – maybe with a chocolate creme instead of the caramel layer – and the crunch was more pronounced. In other words, it would have been improved if it had actually lived up to its name… With the Carb Killas, Grenade have managed to produce a bar which genuinely tastes like a chocolate bar. I’m not even lying, it’s amazing. Like most of the other, newer flavours, at 226 this bar has a few more calories than the older range. The carbs are also a little higher at 20g, but this is matched by Grenade’s standard 20g of protein. There was a time, a dark time, when I was a PB&J hater. Thankfully, I’ve since recognised the error of my ways and have become a COMMITTED lover (peanut butter first, strawberry jam ALWAYS).I was worried the chocolate coating would overpower and detract from the whole ‘PB&J’ feel, but it really doesn’t – the flavours actually blend really well. Although they used to be called ‘Carb Killa’, this is not because they are low or ‘no carb’. It is because the carbs that are in it, are not just loads of refined sugars, which for something that tastes good, is rare. Whereas the ‘older’ bars all seem to hover around 15-16g, the newer flavours have been consistently up at 18-20g, almost matching the 20-22g protein in each bar.
