Everything starts well, until Jan starts hearing strange noises, figures in the dark and strange tapping on the windows.... I loved how atmospheric this book was! It starts out so creepy and even throughout the book, I had moments where I was still pretty creeped out. I loved that as it’s not really easy to do for me. I would give the book 5 stars just for the overall creepy but not scary or gross (horror) balance that the author was able to keep me in. Very suspensful!It formed part of the storyline in the film Shallow Hal." Who talks like this in a regular conversation? You'd say "Like in that movie, Shallow Hal". Overview: I've been looking forward to reading this book ever since my friend said she read it in a day because she couldn't put it down. It certainly didn't disappoint and I finished it early because I was so intrigued to keep reading, but in all seriousness, this is the most f**ked up book I've read! And it's based on a true story? 🤢🤢 If police were looking for footprints and it had rained within an hour or two, it was explained that the rain would have washed the prints away! Surely a reader could deduce this without a verbal teaching aide?

After losing her job and boyfriend, Jan Hamlin is in desperate need of a fresh start. So she jumps at the chance to rent a secluded cottage on the edge of Coleshaw Woods. Cooper Winslow rents out a part of his house known as ” THE COTTAGE”. He rents the guest wing to Mark and gate house to Jimmy. As ever, I'll update when I either fall off the ladder through utter boredom of listening or the book is finished. This is one of those books, once started, the reader will not want to put down. The atmosphere is dark .. with an isolated cottage set alongside a forest, devoid of light and full of shadows. Well written, the story line is positively full of many twists and turns that lead to an unexpected conclusion. The author has a slightly awkward grammar style, probably more old fashioned than incorrect. I think this holds up better in the spoken word than in the written one.Lots of twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. A great chilling read that had me imagining all sorts as I sat in the dark reading this on my own!!! I honestly didn't care for this book. The first half wasn't so bad, but it got worse farther into it. It wasn't creepy or scary it was just annoying and kind of weird. I think that many sensitive souls struggle, at times, to feel worthy of certain good things, Maybe its believing you are worthy of self-love and forgiveness, worthy of a healthy relationship, of feeling peace with yourself on a regular basis. I never thought of myself as someone who feared happiness until I began to notice my own tendency to embrace anxiety and stress whenever the opportunity arose. I would barely try to calm my mind and automatically give in to panic. I wanted to feel stressed, because I didn't know what else to do with my more tumultuous emotions. On a subconscious level, I didn't think I deserved to feel otherwise. My body didn't deserve proper food and rest. I wasn't the person I wanted to be, and by default that made me a bad person. This fear was buried deep within the ice layers on my mountain, I knew it was untrue, yet I felt it was. Just a little bit about me. I live in England and have three children. I have always been a writ... Third book in a row I've read with a massively silly storyline, relying heavily on the stupidity of it's characters with easy to see 'twists'. Did not enjoy the writing style either, every action, no matter how dull was described ... the preparation of an omelette was one example!
