CHAOS: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties is a 2019 nonfiction book written by Tom O'Neill with Dan Piepenbring. As he drove away from the house in the dark early morning hours, he was spotted by the intruders and shot dead. O’Neill's intricately sinister 'secret history' often sounds incredible; that doesn’t mean that it’s not all true. Similarly, they’re surprised to find out that it took two months for the cult leader and his followers to be apprehended; and when they were, they were initially arrested for car theft, not murder. The next night, on Sunday, August 10, the children of Rosemary and Leno LaBianca (ages 38 and 44, respectively) found their parents dead in their home under similarly gruesome circumstances, with words like “DEATH TO PIGS” and “RISE” scrawled in blood.

It is well-written and tells the story of what occurred, how the case was solved, and how the case was successfully prosecuted. If Paul is saying it was Richard, George probably saying it was Richard, and Richard saying it was him, it probably was him. As this book was published a fairly short time after the actual events, it has a real immediacy, and Bugliosi's insider knowledge makes the reading experience extremely interesting. Forty-five years later, Helter Skelter is a somewhat difficult read; it’s not just the self-aggrandizing tone of the narrator, but the knowledge that he might not be as reliable as he seems. Indeed, they were the first to link the LaBianca crime with the Tate murders and even suggested the words written at the scene were from the Beatles latest album, the "White Album.
