However, unless otherwise directed by your doctor, it's best to leave about 30 minutes between applying your moisturiser and applying creams, ointments or lotions that contain a medicine, for example steroid or antibiotic creams. If you apply the moisturiser immediately before or after applying a medicated skin product, the moisturiser could dilute the medicine and potentially make it less effective. Emollients are used to hydrate the skin. Their effects are short lived and they should be applied frequently. To be effective, adequate quantities of emollients should be prescribed. Suitable quantities to prescribe: see Emollient Prescribing Guidelines These recommended amounts are for twice daily application for an adult. To keep the skin well hydrated, leave-on emollients should be applied in adequate amounts to sufficiently cover dry and inflamed areas. 500g = 1 tub or pump dispenser. Quantities required will vary with the size of the patient, the severity and extent of skin dryness. For children approximately half this amount is suitable.

Some people may use emollients to help relieve symptoms of conditions like eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis, but it is important to speak with a healthcare provider to determine the appropriate treatment for these conditions. Stop using Hydromol ointment and see your doctor if your skin gets irritated after using it.

For use as a bath additive: Melt Epaderm Ointment in a suitable container of hot water and and shake to mix. Ensure the mixture has cooled sufficiently before adding to the bath. Care should be taken as Epaderm Ointment will make the bath surface slippery. After bathing, gently pat the skin dry with a clean towel. Hydromol Ointment does not contain steroids. It contains emollients which helps moisturise the skin, for example glycerin, urea, and lactic acid. Can Hydromol Ointment be used on the face?
