Samsung has kept a high-quality 120Hz panel for the S20 FE, giving you super-smooth scrolling. It has a 240Hz sampling rate too, for very responsive gaming. While a year-old SoC isn't a big deal for the casual user, the jump from the Snapdragon 865 processor to the Snapdragon 888 is quite big in terms of performance, and other manufacturers offer the latter for only an additional Rs. 2,000. Its score of 12,705 on the PCMark Work 2.0 benchmark is on par with the S20 series, and its Geekbench scores of 862 single-core, 3,069 multi-core are slightly below the S20 series, but not enough to matter. GFXBench graphics benchmark scores are also on par with the other S20 phones, running at 45fps for the Car Chase onscreen benchmark. The S20 FE has the same Snapdragon 865 processor as the S20 line does, along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, plus a microSD card slot. We have reviewed the 4G model and it's easy to tell that the Snapdragon 865 silicon makes quite a difference in terms of performance, and also doesn't heat up as much as Samsung's own Exynos SoC. Display Size: Measured diagonally, Galaxy S20 FE's screen size is 16.40cm (6.5") in the full rectangle and 16.09cm (6.3") with accounting for the rounded corners; actual viewable area is less due to the rounded corners and camera hole.The main camera has a large sensor, so it ‘sees’ light, and therefore color, better – snaps looked bright and punchy, with everything from blue skies to green plants looking bold. Samsung’s effective AI scene optimization likely has a hand here too, as that tweaks your images depending on what you’re pointing the camera at. Still, Samsung can justify its pricing because the Galaxy S20 FE 5G offers features that other smartphones in this price segment do not. The IP68 rating will let you take your smartphone for a dip in a pool, and 15W wireless charging is quite convenient. You can even reverse charge other smartphones or accessories at 4.5W. While these features might not count as necessities for most users, they do improve the premium smartphone experience. A Galaxy FE tablet is also part of the Samsung Fan Edition series, which means it offers some of the best features of flagship Galaxy Tabs at a great price. You’ll only get a high-res picture if you take a wider shot, while if it’s a close-up featuring just you, the photo will be automatically cropped. Out-of-the-box the S20 comes with Android 10 and the latest version of One UI. Samsung’s interface has improved immeasurably over the past few years and while it’s very much different from Google’s own vision of Android, I still like how it looks and works. Samsung has also indicated you’ll get three years of system updates, starting with Android 11, which is always good news. The ‘FE’ moniker here stands for ‘Fan Edition’ and it’s very much a cheaper, mid-year update for the brand’s flagship Galaxy S20 – with a bit of the Note 20’s DNA thrown in for good measure. It looks like it will continue to be sold alongside the Samsung Galaxy S21 in many regions. Now and then, colors looked a bit too bold though, as though the scene optimization had gotten overzealous, making images look rather artificial. You can easily switch off this processing feature though. At 6.5-inches, the FE sits between the smaller S20 and the larger S20 Plus. For me, it feels like the perfect size and I really appreciate the flat display which is far superior for gaming than a curved panel.
