Building upon the template of her first book, AROUND INDIA IN 80 TRAINS, Rajesh expands on the concept traveling the globe from Canada to China, North Korea and beyond. I couldn’t stand the negative, narrow-minded commentary and lack of descriptive depth of some of the world’s most wonderful train journeys any longer and gave up soon after New York.

We use Google Analytics to see what pages are most visited, and where in the world visitors are visiting from. All through the book the author mentions things photographed and towards the end of the book they even have a travelling companion who is a professional photographer and the photos included are very few. Though it took me a while to get into, I picked the book back up this week and couldn't put it down until I finished.I would have liked to see more photos at the end of a chapter (not half way through) linked to that part off their travel. I certainly know not to go to a dry cleaner with my dirty clothes, but instead find a self-service laundry, if I want to have any money left. She touches on the fact that most American trains are slow, infrequent and sparsely used, while failing to comment on the car culture that has arisen as a result or the fact that such distances could be covered to great effect by high-speed trains if the country would only invest in them. It takes a while for things to get going in this book, and at one level, I'm glad it doesn't have some of the frenzy of the first book. I like Monisha’s witty writing style, which gives the book a fun and laid back feel to it and differentiates it from the usual guide books and serious travel books.

It feels like a title that has been added as a marketing tool, although they so go on 80 trains - not that we hear about many of them. While North Korea spins stories, the Western media is just as guilty of indulging its own agenda, painting North Koreans as one-dimensional robots serving their great leader. I would have preferred way more variety but we had huge chunks of book about China especially, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Mongolia, Tibet.
