A bp spokesperson said: "H2Teesside is a proposed large-scale low-carbon hydrogen production facility in the Teesside area. The project aims to boost the region’s ambitions to become a low-carbon energy powerhouse in the UK, supporting decarbonisation of the nearby industries by enabling them to use low-carbon hydrogen energy in their manufacturing processes. Intensive tests were conducted on SALTWELL as a functional ingredient and suitable replacement for salt. Salt is mostly used in meat products for the water retention capacity, shelf life and taste. The results of a sensory IPSOS Salt functionality analysis test performed by a trained panel, show no significant difference in sensory properties between hamburgers made with SALTWELL and regular salt.

Cerebos salt is sold in Western Europe (including France where it is spelt Cérébos), Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The Australian and New Zealand operations were part of Cerebos Pacific, and now owned by Kraft Heinz which acquired most of its assets from Suntory Holdings in 2018, and includes the well known local brands: Some of Net Zero Teesside's top priorities include delivering the UK’s first decarbonised heavy industrial cluster by 2040 and creating a National Hydrogen Transport Hub, supporting the transition to zero-emission transport. bp also announced plans to bring a second hydrogen production facility to the area - called HyGreen Teesside - in late 2021, which is targeting around 60MWe of green hydrogen production by 2025. Green hydrogen is generated by renewable energy, therefore leading to even fewer carbon emissions when it is made.

Having acquired a significant stake in Cerebos Ltd, they provided both equity capital & strategic input that has proven to be crucial in securing an exciting new venture.The combined 1.5GW capacity of HyGreen Teesside and H2Teesside could deliver 30% of the UK Government’s target of developing 5GW of hydrogen production by 2030.
