If you're looking to escape to the real Scottish hills, this would be a great place to start. Myth, legend and history all surround Glencoe. In fact, as you drive through, you're making your way through the heart of an ancient volcano. Afterwards, hop on board the Jacobite steam train. Admire the stunning scenery as you pass Ben Nevis as well as Loch Morar. Youngsters will love crossing over the Glenfinnan viaduct as they recognise Harry Potter’s route to Hogwarts.

A ride on the Jacobite steam train on the West Highlands Line makes for a fantastic trip. This train line has been voted the world's most scenic rail journey, and takes you over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which many will recognise from the Harry Potter films. Owned by the National Trust for Scotland, Kellie Castle is also well worth a visit to see its Arts and Crafts garden as well as the impressive library ceiling. Activities here include a number of children’s trails taking place in the castle and garden as well as a woodland adventure playground. Haven for beaches What next? Well you might tee off a few holes at the top Gleneagles resort or swoop down the slopes - the Glenshee Ski Centre is ideal for snowboarding too. 'Thistle' do nicely! Exploring the Kingdom of Fife may seem daunting, but it won’t take long to find a beautiful beach along the Fife Coastal Path or discover charming villages such as Kirkcaldy and St Andrews within this Scottish gem. Our favourite things to do Kinghorn Beach is also a family friendly alternative with stunning coastal views over the Firth of Forth and a range of walks taking you over the surrounding cliffs and into Kinghorn village. Don’t forget to visit the picturesque harbour here too!

Stroll to the north side of the beach for gorgeous views looking out over the Eden Estuary Nature Reserve.Known as ‘the outdoor capital of the UK’, begin your stay at Fort William by trekking up the tallest mountain in the UK. Bring your hiking boots and, if you’re up for the challenge, spend the day heading to the peak of Ben Nevis. At the top you’ll be rewarded with incredible views over the Highlands as well as Lochaber.
