This is a wonderful vintage mushroom chart with over 69 individual mushroom illustrations by the fabulous French naturalist artist Adolphe Millot. The fungi is commonly known as thev erdigris agaric, is a medium-sized green, slimywoodlandmushroom, found on lawns, mulch, and woodland from spring to autumn. Franz and Ferdinand Bauer both made an enormous contribution to the “golden century” of natural history illustration between 1750 and 1850. This book is filled with beautiful illustrations. Botanists, researchers and mycologists including Paulet, Perard, Lucand and Vittadini (his Amanita muscaria details are breathtaking) depict common and uncommon species with such passion, knowledge and attention. Bulliard's descriptions and detail are out of this world! Truly lovely. I am so grateful for those who found detailing mushrooms important for future study. A beautiful book for artists and mushroom lovers. The illustrations are all lovingly done with lots of detail and in my opinion, are a great source of inspiration to paint a new picture. Most of the illustrations are in color. Some of them are shown as drawings in the book. Wow! This compilation of works by various botanists/ mushroom enthusiasts is a truly impressive one, and I look forward to seeing more from this author/publisher in the future! It was so very enjoyable & I feel like I learned much! This is probably a poisonous mushroom more commonly known as the stinking parasol. It is a common mushroom that can be found in the disturbed ground on lawns, paths, roadsides parks, and gardens.Please be aware that the delivery time frame may vary according to the area of delivery - the approximate delivery time is usually between 1-2 business days. I do agree that this would be a great book for any artist who wants to try their hand at botanical drawings. The details in this one are just stunning and you can also see the way they did shadows and showed various bits of the mushrooms.

The German text at the top of the chart simply translates as “ mushrooms the description of the species itself under the preceding names”. In Sowerby’s book, there are hundreds of illustrations of fungi and mushrooms. Here I show a small selection of the drawings that personally appealed to me. A big thank you to netgalley, for providing me this ARC of Mushroom Botanical Art by Toshimitsu Fukiharu in exchange for an honest review! As the title suggests, this is truly a botanical art book featuring various "...mushroom and fungi paintings by European and Japanese naturalists in 18th to 19th century...". If you are looking for something deeply informative and educational, this may be the wrong book for you. However, if you're looking for something to feast your eyes upon and delve into bits and bobs of thoughtfully written, well researched nuggets of historical information regarding various naturalists and mycologists, this is just the book for you! Each chapter contains fascinating information on the artist and his drawing characteristics as well as history of genus names and other pertinent details. Amanita muscaria and Amanita caesarea, for example, are easily recognizable and observing different depictions is brilliant...though there are slight differences, the anatomy in each is correct and perfect.

Look at this cover, it’s so gorgeous and the inside it’s just the same, every single illustration was so well done, I’m in awe. Mushroom Botanical Art contains botanical drawings of over 200 species of mushrooms and fungi by European and Japanese naturalists from the 18th to the 19th century. Toshimitsu Fukiharu, a curator at the Natural History Museum and Institute in Japan, presents these fantastic artworks, labeling every drawing with their scientific names, especially for this edition. Also included is a forward by Eugenia Bone, a well-known nature and food journalist. This book is a collection of, as the title suggests, mushroom botanical art. I found this very interesting and I loved the showcasing of different botanists and artists! I do wish there were some actual info about the mushrooms but again, this was really cool for what it is! The beautiful colour plate paintings of each mushroom found inside will appeal to botanical art fans and mushroom lovers alike and the curated selection of images reveals the different painting styles between European and Japanese biological drawings of the period.
