It isn’t as soft as it could be, feeling about as good as the strap on the Stuhrling Original Delphi Acheron. The Bambino version that I have is a V3, which is classified best by its clean and modern presentation. mm strap size of the Orient Bambino Versions 1-3 and Small Seconds is not that common, narrowing down your watch band options. It pays homage to the timeless designs of the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s while also showing its own contemporary style. When I was 7 years old, I had an accident with my first ever pocket knife - a small slip joint swiss army style knife, that resulted in a trip to the ER and 7 stitches.

It is also possible that it was written by a someone who introduced it knowing it’s double meaning, maybe even sneaking it past an older out of date editor. If you do like the overall presentation and feel of your Bambino, you could always explore the watch brand’s more upscale product offerings at Orient Star, which features stronger designs, better craftsmanship, sapphire crystals, and many more design options. The Bambino collection contains some of the most popular timepieces produced by Orient, a Japanese watch manufacturer.With it’s water resistance rating, you should be fine with hand washing and possibly getting caught in the rain. If what’s inside the watch is important to you, remember that Generation 1 watches have “Water resist” on the dial, while the newer Generation 2 watches say “Water Resistant” (and the Bambino small seconds doesn’t say it at all, but it is very distinctive so you shouldn’t have any problems recognizing it).

Most people end up with a classic brown or black leather strap (depending on your dial color), but the versatility the Bambino offers is what makes it is such a great beginner watch. It contains watches with line indices, Roman numerals, or Arabic numerals that sit atop a black, white, blue, green, reddish-brown, or gray dial. A mainstay of the classic dress watch world, the Tissot Visodate features a very similar approach to classic aesthetics as the Orient Bambino.

It’s not obnoxious, but for my wrists at least, it is 1-2mm outside what I consider the ideal dress watch diameter.

Bambino Open Heart (below) takes the design cues from the Version 4, removes the date window and adds an open heart view into the watch mechanism. Orient seems to have found a great niche in the past few years – providing high quality – primarily dress – automatics as a gateway drug into the wide wide world of watches. This characteristic makes it a great starter watch for beginners who haven’t nailed down the exact size of watch they want on their wrist.

The Versions 1 through 3 watches of both generations look the same, only the internals are different. This was the highlight of the Bambino for me since it exceeded my expectations and really gave me the sense that it had a slight luxury watch vibe. Beginner watch enthusiasts won’t really notice much difference and all are comparable in reliability and quality.
