About three hundred children live on CHERUB campus. JAMES ADAMS is our twelve-year-old hero. He’s basically a good kid, but he has a habit of getting himself into trouble. There’s also his younger sister, LAUREN. KERRY CHANG is a Hong Kong born Karate champion. GABRIELLE O’BRIEN is Kerry’s best friend. BRUCE NORRIS, another Karate champion, likes to think of himself as a hard-man but still sleeps with a blue teddy under his chin. KYLE BLUEMAN is a more experienced CHERUB agent. He’s two years older than James, but still a good mate. Russell Bowler won the first (1970) World Championships, held on the Swan River, Perth, Australia. His boat, the original Jennifer Julian, was one of the earliest foam sandwich dinghies, probably the first built outside new Zealand, the construction method having been pioneered in 12 ft skiffs. Russ had been twice Cherub National Champion in NZ, and had moved to Perth as an architect. He designed Jennifer Julian specifically for the Worlds and Perth conditions. At the time of writing Russell is a Partner and Chief Structural Engineer of Farr Yacht Design. In 1970 Russell helped David Steele build what was surely the first foam sandwich boat in the U.K.In this book James, the main character, is older and is more curious to find out what others think of him as their friend. Bruce shook his head. ‘I don’t want you disappearing. You can pee in the corner of the garage while I start the car.’ James got out his wire cutters and snipped links in the fence, until there was a slot big enough to squeeze through. He followed Bruce over the lawn, crawling swiftly towards the house. James felt something squish against his leg. James and Bruce pulled the hunting knives off their belts and cut the kids loose. There was no time for greetings.

Bruce Norris is a CHERUB agent who is friends with James. Bruce is a small but very strong kid; he is a campus karate champion. Ich finde der zweite Teil von Top Secret ist wirklich sehr sehr gut! Ich habe das buch so gerne gelesen, ich habe garnicht gemerkt wie schnell ich eigentlich vorankam. Aber das ist auch kein Wunder, ich fand die Geschichte so spannend. Erstmal fand ich die Mission super ich habe alle Leute sofort ins Herz geschlossen. Also das James sich mit Junior angefreundet hat. Naja die Umstände sind vielleicht nicht die besten, denn es ist James Mission sich mit dem Sohn von dem Drogendealer der KMG anzufreunden um Informationen zu bekommen, aber die Jungs passen einfach zusammen. Und da verbirgt sich eine Sache, die mich am Buch gestört nämlich der plötzlich abbrechende Kontakt zwischen James und Junior. Natürlich endet jede Mission irgendwann mal, aber ich hätte mir gewünscht das James Junior vielleicht noch einmal im Krankenhaus besucht, oder ihm einen Brief schreibt, so etwas in der Art. James still bothers me a lot. He can be so immature, sometimes. UGH It's not even funny. Also, some of the other kids can be really stupid ocasionally... I do not like that... at all! Kerry has earned her place as my favorite character from this series (by now)... she's so awesome! And I relate to her in many ways, so I guess that helps a little!

A character I found interesting in this book was Keith Moore. He is the villain of the book who is the biggest drug lord in Europe. This creates an image of a scary thug like man who takes no prisoners, but as James discovers while undercover, he is actually a nice person who cares for other people as well as himself. James finds out that Keith really likes him as a person, which goes on to help James later on in the book. Many Cherub sailors are in their late teens or early twenties but the flexibility of the class and the Cherub’s great sailing qualities mean that they are also attractive to many older sailors. In the 1960s and 1970s the Cherub was a popular sailing dinghy in New Zealand when they were mainly amateur built. OH AND THAT ENDING! James and Kerry are finally together... I like them a lot... I'm just hoping that James changes a little! And then... when James said that now the campus was his home I just aqkshjdgajhfsdsajkfdahhj! PERFECT ENDING! I was on the same first aid course as you, James. Only I didn’t spend the entire three days trying to get off with Susan Kaplan.’

The Cherub was a considerable influence on other classes. The 14ft NZ Javelin was virtually a straight enlargement of the Cherub. Frank Bethwaite's first prototype for the NS14 was a drawn out Cherub, although they later elected to use a Spencer Javelin hull design for the first boats. From NS14 development came the Tasar, the Bethwaite skiffs and the 49er. Meanwhile in Australia the International Association had elected to update the fore and aft rig to a more modern layout based roughly on the UK rig. Surprisingly perhaps, however, they elected to make the sails a tight one design, rather than adopting the looser restrictions used in the UK. The Australians have also adopted self-draining hulls. Muchamore also wrote a seven-part series called Henderson's Boys, which takes place during World War II and explains how CHERUB was founded, following the path of a 12-year-old French orphan named Marc Kilgour who meets Charles Henderson and shows him how much help children can be to win the war. Henderson, following this, creates a small unit of children to be trained in espionage.

At this time in New Zealand there was a lot of crossover between the Cherub and the unrestricted rig Q Class (now merged with the 12' skiffs). Quite a number of boats were rigged for both classes, and Bruce Farr designs were amongst the most successful in this form. The Kiwi Farr 3.7 trapeze singlehander provides a good idea of the sort of shape of these boats. So I started making some changes to cull off some less important scenes and characters, which then affected other plots, and as I also made my usual amendments for realism, some bits I'd scattered into the vocabulary and actions characters take it became clear this was becoming a slightly different beast. CHERUB agents James, Kerry, Kyle and Nicole are sent on a mission to infiltrate the drug gang KMG, led by criminal Keith Moore. The group attempts to befriend Moore's four children to attempt to gather evidence against KMG. James has the most success, becoming friends with Keith's youngest son Junior and begins delivering cocaine to KMG's customers. Meanwhile, Nicole begins dating Junior and they take a large amount of cocaine, nearly killing Nicole and resulting in her expulsion from CHERUB.My most favourite quote and the funniest is "C'mon have a sniff wont do u any harm" this has got to be the stupidest thing you could say to someone. "have a sniff" sounds like the most deadliest and sinister thing to ever do. The Cherub rules are simple and allow for maximum flexibility for designers, allowing boats to be created to incorporate sailors own ideas. Also means the class develops over time as techniques, materials and ideas improve. All this makes the Cherub one of the most interesting and innovative of all dinghies: The challenge extends from the sailing skills to setting up the boat to suit the sailor, and maybe even designing and building, too. I decided to read this book because the first book got me hooked to this series and I couldn't wait to get this one started. In 1995 there was a surprise development in Australia. Iain Murray & Associates designed a Cherub to the UK rules, complete with asymmetric spinnaker, for Hugh Treharne (Tactician on Australia 2 in 1983 amongst other achievements) and some other prominent Australian sailors. They wanted a suitable boat for their sons to sail in-between the junior classes and the skiffs, and felt that the International rules Cherub with its boxy hull shape and conventional spinnaker was too far removed from the mainstream of development. Their initiative was not greeted with enthusiasm by the Australian Cherub Class, and the boats were registered in the UK. After years of speculation, Muchamore said in the Henderson's Boys novel Eagle Day that CHERUB stood for Charles Henderson Espionage Research Unit B; this was later confirmed in Secret Army by Eileen McAfferty in a telegram.
