Born in London in 1897, Enid lived much of her life in Buckinghamshire and adored dogs, gardening and the countryside. She was a doll given to the author's elder daughter (Gillian) and it appears that Enid Blyton sometimes sat Amelia Jane on her knee at meal-times and manipulated her to such good effect that her daughters thought the doll was really acting up. Yes, one can safely say that Amelia Jane is about the biggest toy in the nursery and that gives her an advantage because it's hard to combat naughtiness in a doll who towers over everyone else - unless there's a combining of forces. From an early age, children are warned about playing with matches and the same advice is taught to toys because anything that can be used to make a fire can be very dangerous. Her books were terrific page-turners in the way no others were' – Michael Morpurgo, author of War Horse .This big bumper edition contains over 20 short stories by the world's best-loved children's author, Enid Blyton. But for now, I don't like these stories and am rather surprised and dissapointed by them, considering how much I liked and grew up with the other Enyd Blyton's stories. She's well aware that her manners are bad and in this story she actually voices the fact that her naughtiness is due to being a homemade doll.

She is also the author of other favourites including The Secret Seven, The Magic Faraway Tree, Malory Towers and Noddy. But really, Amelia Jane has a brave and adventurous heart of gold - and when the toys need rescuing, it's Amelia Jane to the rescue! I too have been a fan of Enid Blyton and when I started reading Amelia Jane stories to my daughter, I could not help enjoying them myself. She wrote over 700 books and 2,000 short stories, including favourites such as The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Magic Faraway Tree and Malory Towers.Amelia Jane has an uncanny knack for getting herself into mischief and into trouble with the rest of the toys in the playroom – from snipping off pink rabbit’s tail to hiding under a big pile of alphabet blocks to scribbling on walls. Amelia Jane's enjoying herself though and when the kitten distracts her attention, the other toys are given a respite and they decide to construct a snow house for themselves. Do you know, she once put a bee in a matchbox and handed it to the sailor doll when he wanted some matches to light his pipe! Her fantasy books, like the story of the mischievous rag doll Amelia Jane, are among her most popular creations and they promise to enchant boys and girls for generations to come.
