I’ve taken it on hikes and laid it on the ground, I had it knocked against walls, scraped it in bushes. Mind you, putting shoes in this pocket takes up a significant amount of space, and depending on what kind of you’re planning on carrying, it may even be necessary to expand the Radial to accommodate them. This helps maximise both durability and the convenience of having separate pockets for specific items.

I always carry my AirPannier here in case the backpack gets too heavy to carry or the weather is too hot, and I want full ventilation to my back. While the minimalist clip leaves the helmet exposed compared to bag/sling type storage solutions, it grips helmet polycarbonate very securely and retracts away neatly, becoming unnoticeable when not in use. There’s no laptop sleeve but there are two exterior pockets with waterproof zips and one with a fleece lining to protect your cycling glasses.Bicycle engineers, expert cyclists, bike mechanics have joined me to bring you the best content possible. The obvious benefit is that you don’t need to hold your helmet and instead of it taking up space in the bag, it comfortably rests on the outside. I like the zipper because often I don’t need a huge backpack to carry everything I need, but when I need the extra space, it’s there. When unzipped, the backpack is really large and it can fit your spare clothes as well as gym clothes or some groceries as well.This is especially useful to remember if you’re using the U-lock pocket for other quick-grab items like a power bank or compressible jacket; otherwise, you’ll be detaching your helmet each time. While the fabrics used on the Radial are fairly water-resistant on their own, Osprey throws in a rain fly for good measure. Thanks to comfortable straps and a breathable, supportive mesh back area, the Paramount is fine for short/mid-range commutes. The front large compartment contains many small pockets to organize small items such as pens, pencil cases, phones, external hard drives, headphones, power banks, wallet, etc. There’s a light loop, the roll-top is cinched with a metal buckle for effective waterproofing and the padding is well vented, which prevents sweat build-up.

You can hook your bike lock through loops down the front of the bag, rather than take up space inside.Altura’s Thunderstorm bag adds little reflective dashes all over the sides, back and bottom for highly effective, all-round visibility. There is a water-repellent treatment should you get caught in a shower before you have time to unroll the cover.
