I find myself in the group of readers who must read every Modglin book written (and there's a lot. This woman writes faster than I can complete a cycle of laundry from wash to fold to put away). Unsurprisingly, not every Modglin book is a success, yet here I am still reading. Overall a highly enjoyable read and definitely recommended for fans of crime fiction and psychological thrillers. If you are a fan of unresolved, mysterious disappearances like I am, this novel will most definitely be right up your alley! Once I was invested in the mystery element of this story, I had no choice but to keep reading, and this turned into a truly unexpected edge-of-your-seat thriller! It was atmospheric, and I truly felt a palpable simmering sense of danger the closer Summer got to unraveling what happened to Leo.

With the freedom to do whatever they like, the two have carved out the kind of life not necessarily made for everyone, but is perfect for them. The writing style was one of the main factors that brought this book down for me, I just didn’t get along with it at all. For a mystery thriller, it did far too much telling the reader what was going on instead of making them work it out. There was barely a mystery in many aspects. I also found the fact that the protagonist was able to make such great leaps and jump to conclusions so easily without any clues or facts felt highly unrealistic, and it started grating on me a little bit. There was little to no adequate thought process behind it, so how she was jumping to these conclusions was beyond me.OK, wow, I loved this book! YOU CAN TRUST ME is a riveting woman-power, pro-female friendship thriller, and one of my favorite reads this year. I adored the two lead protagonists, Summer and Leo. My favorite part was how the chapters alternated between Leo and Summer. It just built the feeling of suspense up even more … as Summer is desperately retracing Leo’s steps…I kept freaking out… waiting for that moment… when we find out.. WHAT happened to Leo… 🥺…ALSO …brilliant use of June 13th!! 👏👏 The pub date is used in the book and let me tell you…something big goes down on that date! 😬

The Julia that Livy knew was vibrant and vivacious, a far cry from the selfish neurotic that her family seem determined to paint her as. This is my first time reading this author.
