Detail levels are good for the money, although the track doesn’t quite have the same impact or dynamic reach as when it’s played through rivals such as the Arcam rDAC. The factory set DacMagic 100 was slightly worse than my previous modified DAC E-MU 0204, after the modifications it is clearly better.From long time I have not listened to a device that would give such a live transfer and so absorb the listener.

This is normally a feature found on professional audio kit where it is used to disconnect the ground in a balanced connection. With this change, the song “Pink Floyd – One of My Turns” was the most memorable for me, and exactly the walk of a woman at the beginning of the song. Metallic percussion, such as that in the opening track of the Dick Hyman album Age of Swing, sang out slightly better with the Cambridge DAC. The DAC is connected to an apple "Airport Express" to provide music through airplay from my phone or laptop. On this occasion though they do suggest that the two units will perform very similarly – which was borne out in the listening tests.

Maybe after a longer listening session something could be heard, but the first impression is the lack of any changes. That's because while you're trying to listen to music, your PC is busy performing virus scans, data backup, and other background tasks that may take priority over your tunes, causing it to alter the data rate to suit its own needs. After changing the RCA sockets, this phenomenon has decreased and even at higher volumes, it no longer make me feel discomfort.
