It’s fairly substantial round the back too - though since this is likely associated with its need to accommodate both a direct (rather than edge-based) LED lighting system and a Dolby Atmos-capable sound system, we’re not going to complain about it. The majority of the buttons feature a decent amount of travel, but the plastic arrow keys can be prone to fingerprints.

The scene where Steve Rogers infiltrates the Lumerian Star is rendered too dim to spot any shadow detail or detail in general. Even better, Toshiba’s set manages to resolve subtle colour tone information during very dark scenes better than some TVs costing significantly more. It lacks bass, which isn’t unexpected – but its lack of bass is exacerbated by turning up the volume. And Toshiba hasn’t scrimped on the smart side either, with the revamped UI home to such apps as Netflix, Prime Video and Rakuten TV. The UL5A is one of the more affordable sets in its lineup and, undeterred by its budget leanings, offers Dolby Vision HDR and Alexa integration.
