The philosophy of the service is to present content that is relevant to the viewer, either on their personal app or the main television screen.

The box has a meet interface albeit a little complex but without a hardrive/SSD to give it a fully functional PVR service, what makes this set-top box different to ‘Smart TVs’. Freeview Play – streaming catch-up apps and recommendations that come directly from the Freeview Play platform. If recording is the main reason you’re looking for a standalone Freeview box, then you should look elsewhere, for boxes with built-in storage and more advanced capabilities (see our recommended Freevew boxes list here). Consenting to these technologies will allow us to process data such as browsing behaviour or unique IDs on this site. Really small and compact ,and by using a downloaded (to my phone)app it is really very easily set up,excellent quality of picture even though I have a very poor ariel, and a huge range of built in apps and channels ,many in varied languages, yes once I get used this box I think I'm going to enjoy it,why pay expensive monthly subscriptions when you have this level of viewing free,must be at least 20 different sports on at anyone time.

Freeview, as the name implies, is FREE, without a monthly cost – but most people do need to pay the annual TV licence fee. The range of channels includes one that shows back-to-back episodes of Survivor – the iconic US TV series, which has been absent from UK TV for years – and is also available on Samsung’s TV player. It's similar to the wi-fi boosting systems we see from broadband providers, with the difference that this is designed to work with routers from multiple ISPs. People who leave the traditional pay-TV services like Sky and Virgin Media for Freeview, sometimes have a hard time finding their feet without the cable/satellite interface they’re familiar with.

I am still discovering the netgem TV app but I quite like the idea to watch content across multiple devices, like my iphone or my ipad and keep watching my serie wherever I go. You don’t have to constantly jump between different apps and services to find what to watch – instead, you see recommendations on one screen, and once you choose what to watch – THEN you will be taken to the appropriate app. The categorization of content was generally pretty good, although parents may want to keep an eye on the content Netgem suggests for teens in particular – or perhaps consider setting up a parental lock. This is something that Roku could have bid for using their platform, but I suspect they were not interested.What I did like is how Netgem took some of my favourite shows and highlighted them on the Home screen. More than 100 Freeview channels are available to watch through the box, plus catch-up content through BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5 and UKTV Play. Although the inclusion of YouTube in Netgem’s app lineup is a step in the right direction, there’s still a Netflix-shaped hole in the service, and for some users that’s going to be a deal breaker. So, if you’re not a dedicated Netflix fan, you’ll probably be satisfied with the selection of services on offer, and the Netbox 4K is a fantastic way of bringing them all together in one place, with an easy-to-use interface that makes streaming accessible for even the biggest technophobes. One further thing – and this is really tiny – is that there was a slight delay in the audio when casting YouTube content from my phone to the box.
