The end of the book was super well done, and left me excited to find out what happens in the next one. I loved Prim, I loved the world Raluca built, and I am looking forward to reading more about both.

overall not a bad book by any means! actually quite a good book, and a good start to a series i think i will enjoy! 🌷🌷 Imagine waiting long centuries for your mate, on the very edge of madness. That is the fate of Gregori. I really loved his character. I loved that he was an incredible hero but also a destroyer of their enemy, the Carpathians that lose their soul and become evil, soulless killers. Gregori might be too much for some romance fans. He is an intense guy and he is obsessed with Savannah in a way that might be scary in a real live guy. But it worked for this book. If you don't like uber-possessive, aka stalkerific heroes, you won't like Gregori. I do so I was cool with him. The Carpathians live in a different reality where the rules of real life man and women interactions don't apply. You have to leave those expectations at the door when you read this book. Provided you have done that, I think you could handle Gregori. This was an incredibly fun read. The tone of our MC, Primrose is perfectly developed, and it made it awesome to read from her POV. If you like action scenes, mythology retellings, and characters that must travel to many different places, you'll want to add this to your TBR.

Savannah is the only daughter of the prince and his lifemate (a human who was converted to Carpathian in book 1), and her mother raised her to be an independent woman. As such, Savannah is very high spirited and resents the idea of becoming a broodmare for her race as she has yet to live a quarter of a century. She knows Gregori is her lifemate, and though he sets her passions on fire, she is also terrified of him. Gregori.... The Dark One... The Boogyman of Carpathians He is the one everyone whispers about and no one wants to be close to. Savannah doesn't want to be tied to such a man, and she insisted on being given freedom longer than a young Carpathian woman is typically allowed. Though it almost killed him, Gregori gave her 5 more years, but he can wait no longer because if he does, he may turn, and then no one (human or Carpathian) will be safe. But as a human collation of people who do not differentiate between Carpathian and vampire descend upon them with murderous intent, will Gregori be too late to save Savannah, and ultimately, himself? Their law forbids them to kill a human in the process of feeding. They don't take enough blood to kill and they also mesmerize their "dinner" so that he/she has no memory of the event and is not afraid while being bitten. From the map to the chapter headings, everything is creative and adds to epic worldbuilding. I have never read anything like this and at times felt that I couldn't read fast enough, I had to know what happen next. The book ends on a cliffhanger and has me so excited for the second book, Caged Magic. This is the first book in the The Chronicles of the Underworld series and I'm eager to join Primrose on her next adventure! Add to all of that a fuzzy sense of time and history, two male leads—neither of which the reader gets to know well enough to be more than cardboard cut-outs—and some truly odd phrasing in the writing (that is otherwise pretty clean) and you have a bit of a fizzle read. However, I believe this is the author's first book, and there is a solid base to improve on. She has obvious talent.
