Although wonderfully conveyed, the plot itself didn’t hold much intrigue. The characters never seemed to come to life. I felt as though we were only shown outlines and whispers of what was intended to be a solid, complex cast. I wanted to know them better, each of them, but never got the chance. Her first night is crazy and also leads to her meeting James, his dad and soon after his brother. This kept me awake, reading and boy did it mess with my head. Once again, B A Paris has her reader's, captivated, spooked and engrossed. Finn has moved away from his cottage with Layla to a new home in Simonsbridge. After a long grieving period, Finn moved on to other relationships before falling for Ellen, whom he has just gotten engaged to. But Ellen isn’t just any woman, she’s Layla’s older sister. Ignoring the gossip from those who remember the story of Layla’s disappearance, Finn and Ellen have created a wonderful, happy life together. If you're not prepared to be with someone with a mental health issue is one thing, if you have traumas related to anything and the other person triggers that in you and you have to keep your distance is also fine. BUT WHAT'S NOT EVER FINE IS YOU TREATING THE OTHER PERSON LIKE COMPLETE SHIT AND SAYING A BUNCH OF REALLY HURTFUL THINGS JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE DEPRESSION.

I have a feeling this is going to be a polarizing book (like another book I’m thinking of which will remain unnamed because it could be a potential spoiler) - readers are going to either love it or not. I’m for sure on the loved it side of things! This was the first book I’d read by B.A. Paris and without a doubt it will definitely not be my last – in fact, I’ve already bought all her other books, as I enjoyed this one so much. I am so in love with this book, I love it so much more because it's not something Micalea would normally write, definitely out of her comfort zone, but I find the books that authors are most nervous about releasing are the best kind of books... This book for Micalea has been TEN LONG BLOODY YEARS in the making and I'm so grateful and happy that she was finally able to write it and release it.. To me — this book can be compared with a meal that satisfies your hunger.. not bad.. ‘good enough’. Thanks to Kristen Granata for generously providing me with an advance copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Clear your diary as this book will take over your life until you have finished it - a fantastic read, I loved it! I want to ride my boat on tragedy. And this book felt like an involuntary therapy session. I can’t say anything about their love story since it hasn’t started yet at this point. Following two perspectives, through both past and present timelines, this narrative is expertly woven together to keep you at the edge of your seat. I had so many theories.
