Sieckmann book is good for pitching , chipping , but chapter on bunkers is poorly written or edited , and the advice given is actually contradictory : one paragraph says 'there is little or no weight shift in bunker shots' ,and a few paragraphs later on faults and cures it says 'you may have this fault because of insufficient weight shift.

You will learn the 3 Releases you can use around the green to give you versatility in your shot selection and crucially have a clear understanding of what shot to play where. Honestly haven't even finished the whole book yet but have spent several weeks with the basics of the first couple releases and seeing some light at the end of the tunnel finally. The concept is that if your wedge has 10* of bounce and you have 5* of shaft lean, there is still 5* of bounce to work with, whereas if you have 13* of shaft lean, bounce is now negative 3*.Dan brilliantly simultaneously explains how complex the short game is while proving the cleanest and easiest way to approach it in 3 easy to understand techniques. Golfers have been playing these shots for centuries, I have just packaged it within a system which I know amateur golfers find very useful and provides much needed clarity. I have not read the book but this guy’s IG posts seem to be very much similar to the new way of playing the short game.

In 2022 I suffered from "Lob Wedge Addiction" using my 58* wedge 43% of the time (average proximity and up/down 20' and 24%, respectively) whereas it turned out that I was much more effective with a chipper, putter or hybrid in terms of proximity and up/down %. Accordingly, my finesse game for 2023 will be primarily reliant on the chip and run (with various irons as I no longer carry the chipper) and secondarily the soft-landing shot. I can yip or duff one now and then as much as the next hacker but at least the 90% of my chips that I don't duff are good, solid shots that get somewhere near the hole. I have to say that in all my decades of golf, I never truly understood how to use the bounce on a club. As well as learning these exact techniques, proven at the highest level in golf, you will acquire crucial performance skills.
