Specifications such as Impacts Per Minute and No-Load Speed remain equal to those of the DHP481, with a max of 31,500 ipm and a No Load max speed of 2,100 rpm. Some users don’t appreciate an RPM over 2,000, as when using larger drill bits, the drill struggles. With a max RPM of 2,100 on the highest setting, the option of a lower gear and thus a lower RPM of up to 550 rotations per minute is welcome. Users have regularly favoured higher RPMs over the years, possibly for no other reason than that they look good on paper! Durable build: The efficient brushless motor means a longer tool life and longer-lasting battery charge. Thanks to Makita's Extreme Protection Technology (XPT), this resists dust and drips helping it to endure the test of time.

The Makita DHP486Z 18V LXT Brushless Hammer Driver Drill provides 130Nm of maximum fastening torque and no load speed of 2,100rpm combining rapid drilling speeds with high levels of torque. This model is based on the DHP481, but has been redesigned with a newly designed motor and gear ratio achieving not only more power but also increasing the performance in continuous heavy-duty applications. Not only has the performance on the DHP481 been increased but it is also considerably shorter. At 178mm in length this model is 27mm shorter than the DHP481. Making it the most compact drill in its class and extremely comfortable to use in all applications. Some final things to know about the new DHP486 include the vibration level and k factor, and sound pressure level. When drilling metal, the vibration level is 2.5 m/s2 or less, whereas, for concrete, this is 8.0 m/s2. Similarly, the k factor when drilling metal is 1.5 m/s2, whereas this is 1.5 m/s2 when impact drilling into concrete. There are twin LED job lights with afterglow once the variable speed trigger is released and a new side handle configuration gives light tool control. Coupled with the soft grip ergonomic handle design positive drill-driver capability is assured. It weighs just 2.7kg, and is more compact (20mm shorter) than the previous BHP458 model.
