There are some relatively simple ways to determine whether broadleaf weeds or grassy weeds are overtaking your yard. Broadleaf Weed Characteristics

The only negative when it comes to application is that it takes a few pumps to get a decent amount of weed killer out. You’ll need to get fairly close to the weeds to cover them, and those with weaker hands or reduced mobility may find they’re working harder than is comfortable for them. The best way to rid your lawn of the broadleaf plantain is to dig them up before weed seeds begin to spread. Hand weeding ensures you get the entire plant, including the root. Method 6: Plants needing two or three applications of weedkillers containing 2,4-D plus mecoprop-P;2,4-D plus dicamba; or fluroxypyr. Examples include Weedol Lawn Weedkiller, Westland Aftercut All-in-One Feed, Weed and Moss killer or Vitax All in One Feed, Weed and Mosskiller (these also containfertiliser and mosskiller). Additionally, dandelions flower aggressively and spread their fuzzy, white seeds over large areas.Note: Do not apply post-emergence herbicides, except Celsius WG Herbicide, to lawns during the spring green up of turfgrass. Do not apply metsulfuron to lawn if over-seeded with annual ryegrass or over-seed for 8 weeks after application. Do not plant woody ornamentals in treated areas for one year after application of metsulfuron. Do not apply metsulfuron herbicides within two times the width of the drip line of desirable hardwood trees or if the temperature is over 85 °F. For these professional products, a non-ionic surfactant (such as Southern Ag Surfactant for Herbicides) is required at 2 teaspoons per gallon of spray mix for best control. For example, some herbicides are formulated to kill broadleaf weeds without harming grass.Biennial broadleaf weeds are much rarer than perennial or annual varieties. Biennial plants require two years to complete their life cycle. In the first year, they may seem relatively small and unobtrusive as they grow low to the ground. Most of the growing energy within the first year is spent toward establishing strong root systems.

It’s important to note that dicamba can be volatile, meaning that it can evaporate and drift onto neighboring plants, causing damage or killing them. To prevent this from happening, it’s important to use dicamba carefully and according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Additionally, some types of plants are more sensitive to dicamba than others, so it’s important to avoid using it near sensitive crops or ornamental plants. Atrazine Generally, weed killers are herbicides that interfere with weed growth by either destroying their root formation or restricting the growth and development of their cells, causing them to eventually die. How to Get Rid of Broadleaf Plantain The Weedol Ultra Tough WeedKiller Liquid Concentrate is arguably the easiest weed killer to apply of all the ones I tested. It doesn’t come pre-mixed, but it can be diluted in either a watering can or sprayer. Some grass species can be vulnerable to pre-emergent herbicides and “Weed & Feed” products. If you have recently seeded your lawn, do not apply this herbicide until the grass has grown enough that it has been mowed 3 times. Improve the health and density of the lawn by fertilizing at the right time and with the correct amount, maintaining an appropriate soil pH, mowing at the recommended height, and watering properly. Apply a 2- to 3-inch layer of mulch to ornamental bed areas to suppress germinating weed seeds. Postemergence herbicides are available depending on the kind of turfgrass in your lawn. Optimum timing of post-emergence herbicides is mid-autumn. See Table 1 for pre- and post-emergence control products. Apply all chemicals according to directions on the label.
