I liked this one way more than the second season since we have way more interesting MCs than in The New Prophecy. Jayfeather is one of my favorite Warriors cats of all time and Hollyleaf is close to being there. I’m not the biggest fan of Lionblaze, but my opinion of him got better throughout the end. The biggest critique I have is that nothing is really happening. We get to know the prophecy, we discover the powers the three might or might not have with them together, but that’s it. Sol is there as well, but what was the higher purpose and what are his intentions? (Update: I just finished Omen of the Stars and I’m still unsure what Sol wants). Just stirring up the mistrust between the clan cats? It’s quite obvious that this season is only supposed to function as the prequel to Omen of The Stars and that's a bit sad. Sunrise ended up being my favourite of the series, as the tension during the whole book with the big plot twist was overall a lot of fun to read.

Finally, I was annoyed about all of Hollyleaf's previously mentioned actions at the end. I couldn't like her, and she is or was one of the protagonists.

Leafpool, I know that I am putting Hollypaw in safe paws. I pray that StarClan gives your apprentice all the strength and wisdom she will need. On the other hand, Lionpaw doesn't really have much to do in this book. The only thing you can say he did was fight some battles and then get injured by falling into an old badgers den with Breezepaw. He's one of the final three in later books and it just doesn't seem they thought about what powers he would have too much. All his power even is that he can fight well, which isn't that impressive to me. There are loads of Warriors who could fulfill that kind of role.

I really enjoyed rereading the lore about the lake territory and how the mountain cats used to live there themselves. I think these books really shine when it comes to new areas, but not so much when you have to travel there. Which is why this is the best of that. No traveling, but a new setting. DAMN, I say! Brambleclaw has been my favorite since he first showed up in this looooong series. But now I will have to say Jayfeather is close to stealing his place. I really really disliked that character in the beginning of these books when he first showed up, but he has really grown on me! All in all, this was a bit above average Warriors book with plot elements we already know from the series: random travels, random deaths that serve no higher purpose and family’s arguing. Especially the plot around Sol felt like the plot around Brokenstar in season 1 aka all leaders are angry with ThunderClan because they took in some cats and the other Clans are threatening them. The other clans were overreacting to be honest, but oh well. With the revelation that they are still kin of Firestar's kin, since Leafpool is Firestar's other daughter, and the presumed death of Hollyleaf, Jayfeather concludes that only he and Lionblaze are part of the prophecy's Three, and that one of Whitewing's kits will be the third cat in the prophecy, being the granddaughter of Firestar's nephew Cloudtail. Okay, I seriously, actually think that Holly has literally gone mentally insane. First she kills Ashfur, then she lets everyone at the gathering know about Leafpool's secret (which is what she wanted to stop Ashfur from doing when she killed him! Dude! Wth?!?), then she kills HERSELF! She definitely lost her mind. It's kind of a shame – she used to be so sweet, and have so much potential!

It's kind of weird, because when she dies, neither Lion nor Jay are sad, or grieving, or anguished, or even a tiny bit distraught! They're just sort of like, “oh.” And then, “now the prophecy won't work. Too bad.” I mean, WHAT?!? Their sister just DIED! Even if she's a raving lunatic, she's still your sister! You should feel SOME grief that she died! It's not realistic. Lionblaze was the most consistent of the trio. Yes, he had a lot of character growth to, but still was a steady character. I think he was the one who kept his two siblings grounded, in a way? Even if yes, he did stupid things to, but I think it just improved on his character. Strangely. I liked him. He is probably the one of the siblings that are mostly like Firestar in his character. Yes, he follows the warrior codex, but he can also see that it has to be bent and sometimes broken, to make sure life in the clans will work. The cliffhanger at the end of the book promises that the next series (Omen of the Stars) will continue on ... the questions that I entered "Sunrise" with have been answered. However, as with all great stories, the finding of answers often leads to more and deeper questions. Of these deeper questions, I now have many ... Unlike Hollyleaf who thought that if you did anything against the warrior codex, life would end. And Jayfeather, well... Hang the code, as a pirate would say! Although he got more understanding as time went on, and has now matured enough to follow it in a similar way to Lionblaze.Squirrelstar is a dark ginger she-cat [1] with one white paw, [27] a squirrel-like, bushy tail, [12] and green eyes.
