With the Starfield, it's clear that Moondrop has paid very close attention to both tonality and technical performance.

The paint definitely steals the show with these IEMs and are for many, as it was for me, a big draw to the IEM since it looks so different than many of the other models. Using my Hiby R6 vs using the Hidizs AP80 Pro does not result in much of a noticeable fidelity differential between the two pairings. So rather than mislead anyone with speculative measurements, I'll limit this review to how I hear the Moondrop Starfield subjectively. I haven't had any issues with the seam but I could see lint/debris getting stuck in there if you put these in your pocket regularly.If getting a separate cable is fine with you, especially with the convenience of having swapable ends, then your rating is easy a 5. I'm currently looking into better methods of measuring IEMs to provide a more accurate picture in the future.

Transient attack is fairly soft - there's no way around it - and dynamic slam is pretty lackluster with an oft-cited "pillowy-ness" to the way hits are articulated. Reddit and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to provide you with a better experience.

I like theorizing about this sort of thing: the motives of the artist, what they were thinking at the time, and if there are any hidden meanings or easter eggs in their works. So songs with fast paced tempo and vocals will not sound rushed with Starfield, but instead deliver it fast without losing details.

Thankfully, I am able to retain good quality even upward of +8dB of bass and with some serious low-end alteration via Hiby’s MSEB system, which is a system of DSP that really is quite detailed in what type of presentation you’d like to alter your headphones in an attempt to morph into. They have excellent resolution, but treble roll off is rather quick and you do miss some macro-details. The Starfield has a rolled off lower treble which helps in avoiding listening fatigue/harshness/sibilance but then you also lose a lot of definition in the upper registers. There’s something highly alluring about the way the Starfield shifts its perceived weaknesses into strengths, the way it straddles that line so neatly for my preferences, and it’s something I can’t get enough of each time I listen to it. Because each earpiece is lightweight and on the small to medium side I find them to be very comfortable.

It has both height and depth presence which actually represents the sound on a huge scale due to this It is very immersive and you can make out different instruments playing at different distances very easily. All in all, I honestly find the packaging of Starfield to be pretty great, maybe because I didn't owned a KXXS thus, I don't have high expectations for this IEM. The Fiio FH1s would be the opposite, warmer end with a wider sound imaging setup, but less focus on midrange. I think if anyone wants something with a bit more energy in the treble proper, rather than the more relaxed 4-7khz range of the Starfield, the IT01s may be the better choice. For detail retrieval, I hear the best image clarity and detail representation in the Starfield's lower midrange.
