Description

Boosting them without making them too powerful: the SoundPEATS T2 does the same for the lower mid-tones. In many electronic genres and dance songs, the darker electronic tones are elevated and provide the music with flow. Drums and darker male vocals are emphasized as well, with the latter prominent enough to outperform instruments around it. The emphasis on bass and the lower-mids color music on the T2 warm and smooth. Highs showed, as well, a very good retuning potential with an EQ, adding a much more detailed and brighter sound. The audio pass through works extremely effectively but the end result can't really be described as 'natural sounding'. Outside sounds come through pretty clearly but both amplifier and compressed. Don't get me wrong, it serves its purpose but Sony and Apple's definitely do it better. To be honest, it's actually not a feature I use all that often. The charging case for the T2 is compact and similarly sized to the competition. Like the earbuds, SoundPEATS has used plastic for the case which mostly features a matte finish but there are some glossy elements here and there for the logo as well as a glossy band across the case between the lid to break up the design. The charging case provides useful charging information at a glance. Speaking of sound quality. The SoundPeats T2 sounds pretty good for their asking price. They go loud. Although there is a definite ‘V’ shape to the sound, it’s not as pronounced as that found on the Tronsmart Apollo’s. There was a degree of ‘hardness’ to the upper mids when they’re pushed too hard but at normal listening levels this effectively disappeared and the overall sound character remained fairly flat.

Overall, the SOUNDPEATS T2 offers a relaxed midrange sound that never gets harsh nor will ever surprise users with uncomfortably hot peaks.. Aside from the branding on the sides, there’s not too much to look at around the earbuds. Their design is fairly simplistic, which gets the job done, and there are a couple of holes dotted around for microphones and LED indicator lights. The underside has charging pins as well as ear left/right indicators and the underside of the earbuds is also slightly rounded to give themselves a more ergonomic design that fits comfortably into the ear. Of course, one of the most appealing features of their earbuds is their active noise cancelling functionality – particularly at this price point, and I have to say, given that price point, the active noise cancelling works surprisingly well. During my testing, I found the earbuds to work well at cutting out ambient noise around me as well as machine noise such as fan noise. A little bit of the high end will seep through, like on many ANC headphones and earbuds, but they do a good job at cutting out the majority of the noise around me. The ANC capabilities are very impressive for the price-point of the earbuds. Setting up the SOUNDPEATS T2 Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Wireless Earbuds is as easy as any other Bluetooth headphones. As usual, it’s suggested to fully charge them before first use. Once that is finished, opening the lid while the earbuds are in the charging case automatically sets them into pairing mode (only the first time, not every subsequent time you open the lid). Find them in your phone or other device’s Bluetooth menu and tap on SOUNDPEATS T2 to pair. When you want to use them after that, just open the lid of the charging case and they connect to your phone automatically. Pairing them to another device is easy as well – hold the multi-function button on either earbud for 6 seconds and they enter pairing mode again. This does not unpair them from the original device. To switch between devices in the future, you have to manually disconnect (but not unpair) them from one device to get them to connect to the other, which is what I’ve come to expect when switching the same earbuds between devices. The earbuds also feature a passthrough (or transparency) mode to feed the ambient sounds around you into the earbuds. This mode works well, there is a little bit of white noise, and it sounds a tiny bit muffled in comparison to no earbuds at all – but the mode is very usable. Of course, if you don’t want any ANC or passthrough going on, you can use the earbuds in their default normal mode and, I’m pleased to share, regardless of what mode you listen in the sound quality of the earbuds is consistent and remains the same across the board.

Wearing

Call quality was good on both sides. I had no issues hearing the person on the other side of a phone call, and nobody mentioned any issues understanding me on any of the calls I made. Stability while listening to music and podcasts was also solid. I’ve heard maybe 2 or 3 dropouts the whole time I’ve been using them, which is pretty good for any Bluetooth device. Installation and setup

Connectivity is perfectly adequate, as you would expect with the buds using the Airoha Bluetooth 5.2 enabled chip. I couldn't get it to disconnect until I made it to my bedroom - around 10m away, but with multiple walls, wireless devices, open Bluetooth cases etc. The T2 also comes with soundpeat’s legendary touch control schemes, and they work exceptionally well with one tiny flaw. On Android, latency in gaming is slightly below average at this day and age. While not as bad as some BT 4.2 or early 5.0 devices, it is quite underwhelming for a new product. On Windows 10 latency is slightly improved but trails behind other contemporary products. Yes, you can move the volume up and down by tapping the right or left earbud, respectively, and all the controls are touch based.The earbuds themselves are quite large but surprisingly comfortable and stay put in my ears very well. They have an ergonomic negative profile - the issue is more into how much they protrude out of your ears than the fit. Therefore they are not ideal for sleeping with or wearing a hat over. ANC is very good for this price point. It is quite aggressive at removing mid to low frequencies, and takes a slight edge off higher frequencies. It does however, hiss noticeably in complete silence and doesn’t do much for removing the sounds of people talking (especially loudly). In the first days, this SoundPEATS T2 ANC issue would pop-up sometimes and it would be gone by readjusting the earbuds or reactivating the function. Just after publishing this review, the effect pop-ups every time and can't be shut off anymore. No matter how strong the ANC is; if you like to use ANC without listening to music, this problem renders the function on these earbuds useless. The treble offered by the earbuds sounds good and clear but could do with a little more clarity on the top end for instruments such as percussion. The mid frequencies sound clear and, when listening to songs, vocals have good quality to them and are clear. Moving down to bass, it is present and deep but not in your face. I personally like this sound style of earbuds, but if you like “bass boosted” earbuds these may not be for you.
