There are plenty of water bottles available, but try one with a specially designed filter to make sure you have access to clean water no matter where you are. This means you can fill up from the tap or any source of freshwater (not salty!) and drink it safely. Common materials here include polyester or polyamide and cotton, which are used to construct trousers that are tough yet feel soft against the skin. You can buy walking trousers that are resistant to thorns, brambles and even mosquito bites, while any with a wax coating put in a good water-repellent performance.

Ounce for ounce as warm as down, Primaloft microfibres are similar in size and shape to down, resulting in nearly equal insulating performance when dry and even better when wet. Craghoppers Nosilife Erin Long Sleeved Top– this long-sleeved top is easily one of my favourite things to wear in the jungle. As well as the odour and moisture control, the Nosilife technology keeps biting insects away. Ventile® fabrics for RAF clothing went into mass production in 1943 and the military association still remains today. Garment designs have changed over the years but you will still find Ventile® suits in modern Tornado jets with the RAF and other NATO airforces. It’s called the rainforest for a reason. Even if you don’t mind getting wet in the heat, you may wish to protect any expensive cameras or smartphones you have with you. Salado Mid Boot– these boots from Craghoppers are worth their weight in gold. With Nosilife technology and a crawl guard to fight against insects, they’re really comfortable too.

Insect Shield technology converts clothing and gear into long-lasting, effective and convenient insect protection. Always make sure that you keep your passport safe. I always carry copies of my personal information (passport, visa and travel insurance policy) just in case I lose one of the originals. For the same reason that long-sleeved tops are must-have clothes to wear in the rainforest, long trousers or pants will protect your legs from insect bites as well as creepy crawlies on the ground. Cropped trousers or shorts are pretty pointless, as it really is best to protect your whole leg.

You won’t need a high intensity bra, but a wireless, supportive cotton bra is a good idea. A Travel Hat PrimaLoft is incredibly soft, lightweight and breathable with excellent water repellency so you remain dry, warm and comfortable, even under the most extreme conditions. Primaloft insulation is soft and supple like down, making it an excellent choice for active outerwear.

With the humidity and heat in tropical rainforests, it’s critical to stay hydrated while you’re out and about. Avoid buying bottled water to reduce your plastic consumption, as most eco-friendly lodges should provide free filtered water on tap for you to fill up your reusable bottle with. Think about your car windscreen on a cold day… fogging up due to the temperature difference between the inside and the outside here force ventilation is needed to clear the moisture. Allbirds Mizzles– Mizzles were made for wet weather, making them ideal for wearing in a downpour in the rainforest. Though your feet may get a little sweaty thanks to the wool insides, it’s a small price to pay for comfort! Read my full review of Mizzles here! The jungle is not a place for high-maintenance people. Any makeup that you apply, you will sweat off (probably in record time)! Don’t worry about dressing to impress or making yourself up. Instead, accept the jungle experience for what it is and embrace practical clothing choices. You might not look like a catwalk model but you’ll be significantly more comfortable with it!
