The plot has everything from despair to danger and inconceivable violence that seems to defy explanation. Revenge drives the bomber and you'll slowly see the pattern and worry about favorite characters with every threat. For any prospective readers out there that are looking to delve into a series that has superb character development, enthralling plotting, and unforgettable twists and turns please consider this one – I promise you won’t regret it. Certainly by the time this part of the story reached its conclusion my emotions were heightened, and I couldn't help but shed a tear for all that had happened. I guessed the ending in part but this certainly didn’t detract from a fast paced, thoroughly addictive book which I was compelled to finish in a day.

There are interludes in the form of a dual timeline which is puzzling at first but becomes clear as it progresses. I really don't like sad books but the way the author did this book, it was really sad but I was so wrapped up in the story and on the edge of my seat that the sad parts didn't affect me the way they. The book started off so well, with a beginning I couldn’t have ever imagined and it just got better as it progressed. I couldn't tear myself away from the pages, I cried I raged and now I am desperate for the next book!With so many lives at stake, it seems an impossible task - but there's no option of failure when Bart and so many others will soon be dead. The novel is mostly told from Ava’s point of view with Luc’s added at strategic moments and is intercut with the story of a young woman, Quinn, and her difficult relationship. I’m a forensics graduate with a fairly strong stomach but I had to ‘look away’ a few times and regroup. I did not realise that this was the latest in a long series of books with the same characters, and usually that would deter me from reading as they can be full of in jokes and vague background stories that the reader needs to know about before enjoying the latest offering. So what a book this was it had everything you could wish for in a police procedural a thrilling plot that was clever and gruesome, twists that I never saw coming but what made it so special for me was the amazing characters that feel so real, I love them all even Overbeck.

This book has it all, brilliant characters, tension, twists and danger from the first page to the last. This is Helen Fields’ END GAME and once the dust has settled we’re going to have to deal with the fall-out. The story was very unique- a psychopath serial bomber setting up horrible scenarios that are meant to kill the law enforcement agents who are going to assist the victims being held hostage. a homicide of someone very close to DI Ava Turner, then leading to various bombings putting Ava under pressure to solve the case without more lives being lost, which is proving challenging. It follows a police investigation into a bombing campaign that appears to be targeting first responders as well as individual victims.

However, the bomber keeps tipping off the police and they are having to respond even though they know they are walking into a trap. Also, I really enjoyed Dr Carlisle’s appearance - I am looking forward to seeing him again at some stage. I've read several of Helen Fields' books now and I am always impressed, so much so that I would easily think of her as one of those authors that I would happily seek out and pick up any of her future or previous releases. I preferred the first half of the book to the second, probably as I’d half-guessed what was going on by then and the pace seemed to slow a little.

Helen Fields is one of my my favourite authors in the genre as she never disappoints when it comes to a gripping story that really is a page turner. l found the main characters had great depth and the secondary characters were really well developed which made this so much more than a police procedural read. There was also a fabulous cross-over character from one of Fields standalone books that I was really surprised and happy to see included!

Overall, if you want a jaw dropping, fast paced, tension as taut as piano wire read with excellent characters, a rollercoaster plot that has so many twists it’s dizzying and dazzling then this is for you.
