And then we have the crime - or crimes. The dual thread of Middleton and Ridley. And apart from saying that both are well plotted and executed and kept me on the edge of my seat, I'm saying no more about either. Oh, apart from bot came to very satisfying conclusions.

As Warr digs into Middleton's past, Ridley calls pleading for help, now accused of a murder he insists he didn't commit. The sub-plot involving DCI Ridley is another great story and is testament to the writing skills of the author that she can include two stories of equal value in one book. This plot was very unexpected and kept me guessing throughout.

When the book starts, body number seven is found, same method, but the killer has killed a sweet young student. Anna finds a piece of information that links the killings to a much loved (not to mention well known) actor. An array of players from trade and publishing gathered at The Delaunay in London on March 9th 2023 to celebrate Lynda La Plante’s 80th birthday and toast the announcement of her dazzling new memoir.

La Plante writes novels and for the screen (she is most known for “Prime Suspect”, a television series). She has written the “Trial and Retribution” series, the “Jane Tennison” series, the “Legacy” series, the “Dolly Rawlins” series, the “ Anna Travis” series, some short fiction, and some stand alone novels. LYNDA LA PLANTE AWARDS Just not for me, I’ve read far more exciting murder/police procedural books by much less acclaimed writers (to date), such as Neil Lancaster & Charlie Gallagher that leave this book looking like a ‘Midsomer Murder’. Lynda La Plante (born Lynda Titchmarsh) is a British author, screenwriter, and erstwhile actress (her performances in Rentaghost and other programmes were under her stage name of Lynda Marchal), best known for writing the Prime Suspect television crime series. Anna Travis (a Detective Inspector) has to fight time to catch the copycat killer. She turns to James Langton (a brilliant Detective Chief Inspector and Anna’s mentor); the rough patch they are going through in their relationship complicates things. And then a second girl turns up dead.

The “Anna Travis” series was made into a series, that La Plante wrote and produced. Ciaran Hinds and Kelly Reilly starred. BEST LYNDA LA PLANTE BOOKS Why was Martin Boon so adamant that David Caplan shouldn't install a new set of gates when they wouldn't encroach on his own property? The book also appears to normalise excessive use of sleeping pills. One of the characters works at a hospital so if she does it then it must be fine. Over the years I have read a variety of Lynda La Plante’s crime novels and know that she prides herself on accurate portrayals of police procedures. She never disappoints.
