This is more great affordable Hi-Fi but done in a way that is brilliantly user-friendly. It’s hard to see the result as anything other than a Best Buy. There is no doubt that the entire performance of the Debut Carbon EVO model escalates to new levels of richness, realism, and detail retrieval, entering ‘restricted’ audiophile ground territory.

Crucially, the Planer 2 is fitted with Rega’s new RB220 tonearm, which features ultra-low-friction ball bearings, a stiffer bearing housing and an automatic bias setting, making it virtually plug-and-play. From there, the Carbon Evo builds on the qualities of its more affordable brethren. The biggest gains are to be had in the soundstage and bass. Put succinctly, the Carbon Evo finds more space in the record and then proceeds to fill it more effectively. Without the low end ever sounding overcooked or dominating the performance, the Pro-Ject hits harder and goes deeper. Analogue bass is a function of engineering; it can’t be easily created any other way. This turntable is built to last you a lifetime! When I gave you my loudspeaker position distances, you told me silly excuses of 1/4" (2mm) measurement tolerance. You even told us "to factor in 3 or so feet between your head, too". Big mouth !! This is a display of strength: with its construction quality and sonic characteristics, it‘s the new reference in this price category. With specs like these, it is highly recommended!Only last year, I added a no-name DAC (paid dirt cheap from a no-name web vendor) for processing music from my 50" 4KUHD WiFi TV via its optical Toslink output. I hook up the DAC to my audio rig to get the best sound quality available from the music performances (mainly classical music) streamed from YouTube - FREE !! the newest Pro-Ject’s creation outperformed tonally and once again emotionally – dare I say – pricier, older, and higher up the rank offerings. You wrote like an loudspeaker expert, telling us proper positioning the loudspeakers could make digital sound better.

From the Pro-Ject 1, all turntables - regardless of price - were made with the same basic principles: You can always change your RCA output cable and upgrade it with your preffered one. The gold plated connectors will always provide the best connection. owner, I have unboxed the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO noting the differences in design but reflecting that the two are similar in price and tactile operation, though they are an audio generation apart. The service from Richer has always been so good there was no choice where I would buy my replacement.

The turntable itself is 415 x 118 x 320 mm, and with the dust cover open 415 x 365 x 405mm (W x H x D). It weighs in at 5,6 kg. You disagree, right? Got to gut to dig Gordon Holt out & challenge him face to face ???? I wouldn't mind acting as your witness.

The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo-lution

Sound quality is always our main concern, so it’s still the Rega for us, but that’s a split, rather than an unanimous, decision. The answer to which is better for you will come from hearing both for yourself, but don’t let that frustrate you – you’ll be in the company of two of the best record players ever made at this price. The supplied platter of the Debut Carbon Evo is damped steel and it works pretty well. Pro-Ject offers the option to remove it and fit one made from acrylic. The principle benefit of this is that acrylic has the same resonance properties as vinyl. With this platter fitted, the stylus is now dealing with a playing surface that no longer has varying resonance properties. Otherwise, cheers, fellow audiophile. (I would say 'fellow music lover,' but you seem not so much the type.)
