Music also sounds decent on the Cloud MIX Buds, though earbuds aren’t ever my first choice for music. These earbuds have 12mm drivers — a good size for earbuds — and did a pretty good job of separating mid-range tones while maintaining fullness and warmth. I actually thought these earbuds were a little too warm overall, but at least the bass didn’t end up too muddy or distorted. Audio on the Cloud MIX Buds is pretty good, especially for earbuds — when they’re connected. The 47-inch cable has been rubberized to prevent tangles. This is a nice feature we have seen on most in-ear gaming earbuds these days. If you’re commuting early in the morning, the last thing that anyone wants to do is fiddle with cables. It should be noted here that the cable is not interchangeable or replaceable. The cables form part of the earbud casing and cannot be removed. One feature that surprises me is the inline control. There is only one button on it — the multifunction switch. In an effort to achieve total sound isolation, I turned the volume up to the maximum level, but this resulted in major sound leakage. Anyone around you is sure to hear whatever game you’re playing. I still would’ve preferred the braided nylon cables that are common in gaming headphones, but the rubber material of the cable seems sturdy enough. Over time, its color will probably fade though.From what I’ve read, this multifunction button is mostly meant for answering calls and playing and pausing music. But, for gaming sessions, this multifunction button is basically useless. It didn’t do anything when I tried to use it on my Nintendo Switch.

The Cloud Earbuds are supposed to feature an in-ear design, however, I can’t say that this is actually the case. They don’t actually go inside the ear, but rather they sit just over the ear cavity. My ears weren’t sealed and there’s no vacuum inside, but this doesn’t pose much of a problem. The patented silicone ear tips are very comfortable to wear. They feel a bit loose, but not too much like they’re going to fall out. Their unique shapes make them smooth and easy to remove. Even the earpieces seem to be made of the same material as the wire, albeit slightly more rigid. This makes for a very uniform appearance, but it’s hardly an imaginative one.There are no buttons on the inline controls for volume or muting. You’d have to do it manually on whichever device you’re using, which is quite a drag, especially during intense gameplay. The short answer is that the Cloud Earbuds perform well enough, and provides an immersive experience for gaming alone. The 20 – 20 000 Hz frequency is balanced with a warm midrange and well-rounded highs. HyperX has said that these gaming earbuds come with ‘improved bass’ and that is somewhat true. Earbuds often struggle to compete against headphones in the lows because they’re limited by driver size. HyperX claims up to 33 hours of battery life for the Cloud MIX Buds; this is slightly misleading in the way all companies are slightly misleading about the battery life of true wireless earbuds, because it includes the charging case.

Despite that, I didn’t observe any instances of my voice cutting off. There’s a slight reverb to it though.HyperX’s NGENUITY has been — will be? — updated for the Cloud MIX Buds. The iOS app is available now but I wasn’t able to get the Windows app to update and/or recognize the earbuds. The software isn’t amazing, but it does offer a couple of useful settings and features. Since then, HyperX has been providing a variety of PC, console, and wireless headsets that meet the rigorous demands of gamers, which give them the winning edge and help them stay on top of their game. It’s hard to cancel out noise completely with earbuds, but the Cloud Earbuds are still able to reduce environmental sounds, at least to the point that they sound muffled. Fortunately, they weren’t too distracting while playing immersive games, such as Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This adds a winning point for the Cloud Earbuds.

HyperX is a brand known for its high-quality gaming peripherals. They have released headphones, keyboards, and mice catered towards casual players and professionals. It should, therefore, come as no surprise that the company is having a go at the expanding gaming earbud market. Traditionally, we have all been led to believe that headphones reign supreme in terms of audio quality. In most cases, this is the truth, but with the increase in mobile and console gaming, the HyperX Cloud Earbuds aim to close the gap between performance and comfortability. Design I pulled the zipper of the pouch and was greeted with a lovely sight of the IEMs very neatly contained inside. Upon closer look, it turns out to be fastened together with a cable tie. I like this a lot, as it prevents tangling and keeps it from spilling out once you’ve opened the very compact case. The inside of the pouch Before I get into audio quality, let me mention what a difficult process it was to even get to a point where I was able to assess audio quality. The Cloud MIX Buds have omni-directional mics, which are…okay. People were able to hear my voice clearly over video and voice calls, but I’m very loud and my friends pointed out that it didn’t sound nearly as good as when I use a headset with a boom mic. I was also able to take calls on the street without issue, but the mics don’t have any built-in active noise canceling and the people on the other end of the line could definitely hear what was going on around me. Software for the HyperX Cloud MIX Buds These are in-ear earbuds with silicone tips. My ears aren’t particularly small — they’re solidly medium-sized — and these earbuds were just a little too large to feel comfortable right away. They didn’t hurt, and they weren’t falling out, but they felt overwhelming in my ears. I grew more accustomed to them after a couple of days, but even now they’re still slightly-too-big-to-be-comfortable. Largeness aside, the earbuds fit my ears pretty well, creating a decent seal that offered good passive noise cancellation. Audio and Mic Quality on the HyperX Cloud MIX Buds

One of the biggest reasons for using gaming earbuds over gaming headphones is their lightweight structure. Headphones can be cumbersome and, after a few hours of gaming, they can put a strain on your ears. The HyperX Cloud Earbuds weigh just 0.67 ounces and are a perfect option for those looking for mobility and long-term comfort. In the middle of the cable, you will find the in-line controller. The microphone is also found here and is in the shape of a small hole. Unlike the Turtle Beach Battle Buds, there is no detachable or extended microphone for gaming. On the controller itself, you will find a single button that can be used for answering calls or to play and pause your music. As expected from HyperX, they did not disappoint in sound quality. The 20-20kHz frequency matches well with crisp mids and decently-rounded highs. While we’re talking about deluxe, the 3.5mm plug actually sports a shiny gold plating, intended to prevent rust from forming. It’s quite interesting to see in which areas HyperX chose to put in the more lavish details. Comfort The Cloud Earbuds when worn Next are the earbud casings themselves. Inside, you’ll find 14 mm dynamic drivers, but more on sound later. HyperX has included 3 different sized silicone patented ear tips. They’ve been made in an almost ‘wedge-shape style’ so removal from the ear canal is made easier. It’s a pity that HyperX has not included any foam ear tips, but the included tips still provide a comfortable experience.
