Steven Universe and his focus on using love and kindness to defeat everyday monsters sounds saccharine but it covers mature themes (it’s a LGBTQ+ standard bearer), has big laughs and banging tracks. The result is a compelling, funny, and even rather moving story about a passionate young optimist who, almost by accident, created a brand new kind of art.This book could have been so much better with some tightening and a lot of red ink from a concise editor. Unlike other Disney biographies, Michael Barrier presents a Walt who was neither a saint nor a demon, but a complex human being.
