We love the Bear books by Karma Wilson and Bear Snores On is a really lovely book to read with your preschooler during winter and ideal for our Bear Theme this January. Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre has announced the world premiere stage adaptation of Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman’s book, Bear Snores On. Where is Bear Going?- Students will get each bear to yummy treats of popcorn, tea, and nuts. Do Art The storyline and cast of characters are very appealing to young children. There are so many kinds of forest animals in the forest that join in the fun. Playing outdoors was fun, but reading was Karma’s “first love” and, by the age 11, she was devouring about a novel a day. She was even known to try to read while riding her bike down dirt roads, which she does not recommend as it is hazardous to the general well being of the bike, the rider, and more importantly the book. Her reading preferences were fantasy (C.S. Lewis, Terry Brooks, etc…) and historical fiction (L.M. Montgomery, Laura Ingalls Wilder, etc…). Those tastes have not changed much.

We think this lovely tale couldn't be any sweeter. Flowing text, filled with perfect rhythm and humor, match wonderfully with the gorgeous and warm acrylic illustrations. The bear's warm cave with an orange glow is a cozy treasure in the middle of a snowy white forest. The woodland animals are bright-eyed and adorable, with just the right details -- smiling faces and the right balance of colorful strokes and realistic flair. Bear is as snuggly as can be, and the final scene will warm the hearts of every reader. A splendid offering from the team of Wilson and Chapman that is sure to be read again and again. Karma never considered writing as a profession because her mother was a professional writer which made it seem like mundane work. At the age of 27 she realized that she still loved well-written children’s books of all kinds, from picture books to young adult novels. By that time Karma was a wife and the mother of three young children. Trips to the library with her kids were a combination of emotions…a good book meant fun for all! But so many of the books weren’t what her children wanted to listen to. Then more and more animals arrive in the bear’s den and the noise gets louder and louder until bear gives a great sneeze and wakes up. Cush Jumbo ( Josephine and I) and Katy Sechiari ( Sweeney Todd) have penned the stage adaptation and also serve as co-directors, while Harry Blake ( The Tempest reimagined for everyone aged six and over) provides the score and musical direction. LITERACY: After making bear caves, you can turn them into a letter recognition game. (Fantastic Fun and Learning) Those are just a few of the animals that hibernate.
