The first-person narration is pretty much identical, style-wise, to the narration from the earlier two books about the Walsh sisters Claire and Rachel, even though these are supposed to be three different characters. The Walsh family also makes a pretty substantial appearance, and it’s always a joy getting to know them better. We get to hear Margaret's side of the story, which is great after seeing her sidelined as the 'boring' one in all the other books. Unlike many chick-lit type books that portray the heroine’s ex as wholly unlikable, Garv comes across as a sweet, real man who has simply made some mistakes in his life.

Well, you'd need to leave the flashback chapters in, the ones that describe Maggie's life before the beginning of chapter 1. The comic quotient of Angels is even higher than that of her previous bestsellers, and extends her breadth of characterisation to a wide range of convincing and entertaining Americans. She thinks it will be good to get away for awhile, although she has some ulterior motivation involving an old boyfriend who frequents the Hollywood scene. After the liveliness of the previous two books in the series it was boring and frankly I was relieved when I reached the page with the caption "epilogue". Reviewing Marian Keyes you have to resist the temptation to quote her funny bits, which come three or four to a page - a husband's "off-duty hair", a parody of slasher novels with "psychos who think in italics", computer nerds from "Goatees Anonymous", Californians with a dim sense of place and hearing who think "Ireland" is "Iowa". I usually love Marian Keyes' books, but found this one very slow going and easy to lose interest in. I probably won't go back to this one as often as I do 'Rachel's Holiday' or 'This Charming Man,' but it was absolutely worth reading. But ever since that business with the rabbits, and possibly even before that, things with Garv had been uncomfortable and weird.The main reason I hated it was for the meaning behind it(that i got at least) It implied that for women to succeed and be successful in life they MUST get married. Rachel’s Holiday focused on drug-addicted sister Rachel, Watermelon was the story of Claire and how her husband left her the day she gave birth to their first child, and now Angels is a book about the “white sheep” of the Walsh family, Maggie. They end up making love, and right afterwards both of them realize that they're not suited for each other, Maggie realizing she's straight after all just like she thought before meeting Laura, and Laura deciding that Maggie was just a rebound thing and not really Laura's type.
