In this final Lucifer volume, the war in Heaven reaches its universe-shaking conclusion, as the forces of Heaven, Hell, and everyone in between wage a final battle to determine the fate of both Yahweh and Lucifer's Creations a fate no one, not even the Lightbringer, could foresee. It’s surprising since I can normally come up with a sorta dark humored thing to say when reviewing stuff like this but here. As the series opened in 2000, Lucifer's "restful" retirement was disturbed by a series of associates from his past. a Born in Liverpool, England, Carey worked as a teacher for fifteen years before gaining regular work writing for several independent companies.Lucifer himself, however, is mostly bored with his existence when the group known as the Demon Knights are captured by him during the early Middle Ages and passes the time by finding small amusements, such as watching the struggles and falls of Etrigan the Demon.

Lucifer appears primarily as a supporting character in The Sandman and as the protagonist of the spin-off Lucifer. The cast of characters is wide and fascinating, several will be familiar to Sandman readers, and many take completely different forms. Lucifer is introduced as more of a has-been for he has resigned his role as the lord of Hell (utter boredom with the monotony) and now runs a piano bar on earth. And while I wasn't as enthralled by it as they were, it did prompt me to check out the source material.This story is weird as hell (pun intended) and it’s done in a way that the reader does have a WTF reaction the entire time but the story still makes sense, I really enjoy those kind of books. Carey's Lucifer is a figure representing the will and individual willpower, who challenges the "tyranny of predestination". The spin-off series Lucifer (2000–2006) written by Mike Carey depicts his adventures on Earth, Heaven, and in the various other realms of his family's creations and in uncreated voids after abandoning Hell in The Sandman.

The violent, aggressive, totalitarian, vengeful, and dictatorial aspects of Heaven's rule are represented mostly by the angel Amenadiel, who has a particular hatred of Lucifer and leads attacks of various kinds against him. It seems that almost anything related to Gaiman's Sandman universe is going to be excellent, but Carey's Lucifer is a very different kind. Cain, Abel, Gabriel, and Lucifer (the Pre- Flashpoint versions) currently appear in the Sandman Universe Comics from Vertigo.

I allways shied away from this because of multiple reasons, first how do you follow up on neil gaimans magnum opus that is sandman and the birthplace of this version of the character? I want to continue this series because I have faith in Neil Gaiman but I am not in any hurry to read the next volume. Set in the Sandman universe, the book starts after Lucifer has given up the throne of Hell and is currently supervising a piano bar in LA (as he would. He became tired of the various stereotypes and prejudices that mortals held of the devil, such as the idea that he purchased and traded for souls, which was largely untrue, and that he forced mortals to commit evil acts.Old enemies resurface and dangerous new ones appear as the time comes for old scores to finally be settled. Lucifer does not have an issue with accomplishing this task in exchange for a letter of indulgence from God. If Gabriel finds the killer and takes the culprit into custody, his sins will be forgotten, and he will be welcomed back into the Silver City.
