Another film named "Ektar" was introduced in 1989 by Eastman Kodak as a semi-professional color negative film, but it was later discontinued and was replaced by Royal Gold. An easy way to overcome this is to cut out each image in Photoshop and save them as new files. A downside is that the people scanning them probably cut off 0.5mm of each image by doing a 35mm scan. Though saturated, Ektar’s colours are neither overbearing nor unnatural. The film’s palette is nuanced and is unlikely to be easily replicable by cranking up the “saturation” slider. People’s faces glow in an extremely flattering way. It’s still more than sharp enough to capture expressions, eyes, hair, textures, clothing. Focus is fixed, so there's no need to adjust the lens before snapping the shutter. Even so, take care not to get too close to your subject as the flash will wash out details in close-ups. I wouldn’t say there’s anything particularly bad about them. There are a spattering of reusable compact film cameras with disposable camera-quality optics to mull. Most others are full-frame but are also good ways to try out film.If you don’t think there’s enough light to fully expose your ISO 100 film, Ektar is better to be left at home. Or pushed in development. This important relationship just feels neglected and negated with the H35’s viewfinder. I can forgive a wobbly rewind crank and find the erratic frame spacing somewhat endearing, but the viewfinder is something that I don’t think should have been compromised. Is it a deal-breaker? The manufacturer should have spent an extra dollar to shade it out completely. One of the most significant advantages of these cameras is their affordability, especially in comparison to the high cost of film rolls and their chemical processing. In addition to the fixed f/9.6 aperture, the shutter speed is also fixed to the aforementioned 1/100 second. Therefore, accurate exposure relies purely on your choice of ISO. Don’t forget, print films like Kodak Tri-X, TMAX, Gold, Portra, and Ektar have many stops of latitude that can produce a usable image from very inaccurate exposures. So you either get slightly cropped scan and automated prints or have to fork out more when lab processing. And lab quality varies. Results
