Not here to review the delivery but the product itself. It's a really great concept but unfortunately doesn't work at all. I love supporting renewables but it feels more like this product was created to make money and not actually help the planet. Material is fairly harsh and feels like it will hurt my ear if I make any tiny mistake. There is no texture on the swab, just those half-spheres which literally don't do anything. My wife and I gave it a chance for 2 weeks, didn't want to discard it after one or two tries but it's just terrible, won't clean your ears at all. They didn't really put much effort in the actual development it seems as there are some flaws that are so obvious, anyone could see it will not work. Very disappointed but what can you do. We'll keep looking for a better product, this one is unfortunately going into the recycle bin. "Reply: it was the basic one with bumpy tips, wife is still not sure about the make up one 😁" More serious infections may need to be treated in hospital with antibiotics given by injection or a drip into a vein in your arm. LastSwab, above all, is an opportunity to transform our routines for the benefit of the planet while also simplifying and decluttering our lives. All that’s left to do is decide which LastSwab version will add value, which may end up being both! People staying in care homes and hospitals (especially those having surgery) are at a higher risk of getting an MRSA infection.

My initial impression was similar to my reaction when first using the Last Swab. That is, one of surprise, since Last Round doesn’t act exactly like cotton rounds, just as Last Swab doesn’t act exactly like cotton swabs.This LastSwab review wouldn’t be complete without telling you a bit about the company behind these products. Danish designer Isabel Aagaard started Last Object in 2018, launching the first product, Last Swab, in 2019. The Danes have been known for their sleek, functional design AND eco-consciousness for decades, so it’s no surprise that Last Object originates there. If they don’t settle on the ocean bed, they are instead washed up onto our coastlines, where an even greater number of animals can digest them. A 2018 survey found that 27 cotton buds were found for every 100 meters of UK beach. Nonetheless, on that fateful day that a post from LastSwab appeared on my feed, I found myself immediately sold. After some initial research into just why I should make the swap to their reusable design, I decided to take the plunge. Who Invented LastSwab?

This review of LastSwab is not sponsored, but the result of my journey to ridding my bathroom of single use plastics. While the basic model can be used (gently) for cleaning your ears, the beauty edition is much firmer in texture. Consequently it’s discouraged that you insert one into your delicate ear canal. They’re easy to clean too. You can wash them with a bit of soap and water and lay them flat to dry. If you want to get them really clean you can pop them into a mesh laundry bag and throw them in the machine with the rest of your dirties. Last Rounds themselves are made in Denmark, in one of the most environmentally friendly factories in Europe. The rounds are comprised of 70% Scandinavian wood fibers and 30% cotton fibers that are too short to be used in the textile industry. I love to see companies going out of their way to use scraps that would otherwise go to waste. I imagine it would be a lot easier to not do this, but it is an essential part of creating a more sustainable economy and world.

However, aside from this, LastSwab – both basic and beauty – can be used for most things. The basic version has a ‘bobbled’ or textured end, whilst the beauty model is smooth and pointed; ensuring it can accurately remove or correct make-up. How Do You Keep Your LastSwab Clean? Instead, the material tends to ‘move’ water or dirt around, rather than absorb anything. This is certainly something I found with the beauty LastSwab and it was initially quite frustrating (until I started to use it alongside makeup remover). Reusable tissue might not sounds appealing, but seriously we’ve been using them since the dawn of time. Handkerchiefs were not just for our grandpas, the cave people used them too!

On average, it’s estimated that in the UK we use 1.8 billion single use plastic, cotton swabs every year. While this statistic would be improved if cotton swabs were the sort of thing you used time and time again, the sad reality is that they’re used on average for less than a minute before being thrown out. However, my original reason for writing about these products went (of course) beyond my new found fondness for waxing lyrical about bog roll. While we’re discussing reusability, now is a good time to mention that yes, instead of getting Last Tissues, you could have a bunch of reused handkerchiefs and put them in a small carry case. This would technically be more low waste friendly, as it’s reusing things that you already have, and of course it would be cheaper than purchasing another item. IMPORTANT (again for shower swabbers): DO NOT store your Last Swab in the shower. My partner, Veren, did and it weakened the swab to the point where it ended up breaking (he also swabs really hard). I reached out to Last Object only after I realized he’d been storing it in the shower, and Last Object concurred NOT to store it in the shower. I keep mine next to the bathroom sink and it’s been perfectly fine there. Also, don’t put Last Swab in the dishwasher or boil it. Anything that adds too much moisture or heat will degrade it.

Small and innocent looking they may be, cotton swabs punch far beyond their weight when it comes to environmental damage. What I love about LastTissue is the fact that, unlike paper tissues, these are silky soft and don’t make the skin around my nose red and raw after frequent use. Plus, if I need to use one just to tidy up my watery eyes I don’t feel guilty about wasting a tissue. These things are meant to last 520 uses! The Last Tissue home boxes (think your classic rectangle Kleenex box) make a lot of sense. I imagine it will be great for larger households or homes, because you can put one in each main room. It’s also great way to introduce visitors to zero waste concepts when they come to your home. Although diminutive in size, cotton swabs are made from two of the world’s greediest ingredients: cotton and plastic.

Waarom LastTissue gebruiken?

One reason I decided to opt for LastSwab’s ‘beauty’ edition was because of its design. With a slim, pointed tip and sturdy texture (designed to prevent bending), it’s incredibly easy to get to small imperfections around your eyes. I often found that traditional cotton swabs smudged more of my makeup than they removed – however, LastSwab is designed to prevent just this. Before I start on the pros and cons of using one, I want to make one thing clear – the LastSwab is neither an identical nor perfect substitute for the traditional cotton swab or Q-Tip. The biggest initial difference is that Last Round is very stiff to the touch, unlike cotton rounds which are bendable and flexible. I normally take off my makeup by using coconut oil, kept in a small glass jar in the bathroom. Coconut oil is great for many personal hygiene habits, from homemade deodorant to makeup remover to moisturizing dry skin. However, you do eventually get used to how it interacts with products like mascara. I now tend to nudge the eye makeup away from my eye and then wipe it off with a flannel or even my fingers once it’s at a safe distance. This approach is a bit of a compromise, but one I’m willing to make. I’ve now been using my LastSwab for a month. After an initial ‘getting to know you period’ (including a few frustrations), I now feel as though I’ve got to grips with using this clever little invention.
