While the map is placed in the center of the table, each player takes his set of 45 colored train cars and its matching scoring marker. The marker will be placed on start. You just need to be aware that if cities are connected by a double route, you cannot claim both routes! If you are playing with only two or three players, the double routes don’t count. Once one of the routes of any colour has been claimed then the other route cannot be used.No matter the number of players in your game, it’s important to grab your key routes early before they are taken by someone else! If you’re playing against some challenging opponents, they’ll be watching you to see which routes you’re going for, just as you’re watching them! There are some things to look out for that can help you figure out which routes other players want. Each player starts with 45 trains. Keep an eye on how many trains people have remaining so you always know how close you are to the end of the game.

When a route is claimed, the player can place one of his plastic trains on each of the spaces of the route and all cards used to claim the route are discarded. The player with the longest continuous path of routes receives this special bonus card and can add 10 points to his score (in case of a tie, both players receive the points). First and foremost, this expansion is great because it actually adds a whole new element to the game. Players will now be able to cross water spaces using ferries or sailboats which allows for plenty of options in regards to building routes giving players more places they can start from when trying to build their empire. The second edition of the “First Journey” series does the exact same thing as the first game, but here instead of the US, the map is an adaption of the original Europe map. Some routes between two cities benefit from two train lines, however, these only come into play when there are three to five players. When there are just two players these double routes are not in play, and you will need to find another way around. A good choice if you're looking for something that everyone can enjoy without having different playgroups end up fighting over rules which can sometimes take place when trying other titles out there on the market. Conclusion There is one twist to the rules. whenever a player places a route on the board, they claim a passenger from the two cities that form the endpoints for that route (assuming that the passengers have not already been claimed). At the end of the game, whoever has the most passengers of each of the six colors scores 20 points for that color; whoever has the second most passengers in a color scores 10 points.This is a re-release of the original game ten years later, with a much nicer box and components. If at any time, 3 of the 5 face-up cards are Locomotives, all 5 cards are immediately discarded and 5 new ones are turned face-up to replace them. A player can claim any open route on the board and they don't need to connect to any of his previously played routes.
