OK so I’m using the new OSv2 “step copy” feature on one of the drum tracks because I’m trying to speed up the process of dialing in velocity changes to multiple notes in a track. The connectivity is plentiful, and I’ve enjoyed pulling in MIDI synths, software synths and modular all together into one place. So yeah the hardware is great but the software implementation is really lacking and is quite disappointing. Instead of playing the step chord normally, it arpeggiate it one or more times within the step duration.

I have to assume that it should have time divisions and hopefully these will come along in an update because unfortunately at the moment it’s unusable.really like the idea of the SQ-64, does anyone have time to check the “tightness” of the clock, especially when acting as a slave and then outputting to other midi devices? I set it to “4x4B”, so that the drum pad layout starts from the bottom left-most pad (D-1), but in Gate Mode, that 1st pad is still shown as D-13, not D-1. The SQ‑64 is very at home with MIDI and all the polyphonic action is aimed at either a connected computer or external synths.

Tracks A,B and C are for melodic/chords tracks and all have GATE/CV and MOD control voltage outputs for modular gear (monophonic) using MIDI, you can get up to 8 notes per step. You can create a sequence ‘offline’ by holding a step and pressing a note in the keyboard layout, which is fine, but it doesn’t quite have the efficiency of conventional step‑recording. Three are melodic, with up to eight notes of polyphony, while the fourth is rhythmic and capable of pumping out 16 monophonic paths of percussion (eight over CV). I’m impressed with the combination of features and compromises that Korg makes on their “budget” gear.My local vendor (Perfect Circuit) has no word, but succinctly mentioned that while supplies and production are cut in half, demand is up by a factor of three. And the new 8x2 section to the right of the 4x4 pads in Drum Pad Mode is used for step sequencing, but is counterintuitive (pads don’t light up where events are, instead you hold down a step, and the OLED shows which pads have events on that particular step. With all the possible timing variations going on with different tracks, there’s a handy Resync button which resets the track to step 1. All your patterns can also be freely chained and looped, making this the ultimate device for machine live! There doesn’t appear to be a step‑record function where you tap notes and have them added to the next step, and this feels a strange omission on a hardware sequencer.
