The setting too is so well described that I could imagine myself wandering round the cemetery with all its gothic symbology, and see the suffragettes’ march with their banners ‘Deeds not Words’ and hear their cries of ‘Votes for Women’. In the hidden life of Galway was revelation that begged a crucial question: how do we know where our true nature Lies? I am a hybrid author (both traditionally and independently published), mother of one kid and three cats, and an avid gamer. Sandy's characterization was a little weaker, in my opinion, simply because it seemed too stereotypical. Falling Angels was a disappointment—I realized after about 60 pages I had no real interest in the story or characters, all of whom came across like twentieth-century retreads of Edwardian stereotypes. Their families, the Colemans and the Waterhouses ("no relation to the painter"), meet in a graveyard beside their family graves. A “charming tale of little temptations” (Jacquelyn Benson), this feel-good comedy by fantasy author Olivia Atwater mixes angels, demons, romance, and chocolate into a perfectly petty and wickedly entertaining novel. She is the tough-talking, rebellious wild child; standing up to her father and loving her mother, even as she despises Mary's weaknesses. And while Falling Angels may be a story of women, despite, or perhaps because of their exclusion from contemporary politics, Simon's observations are the most honest and revealing.Stuffed like a barmbrack (fruitcake to you English) with quotations from Heaney, MacNeice, the Pogues and Paul Muldoon, it will be intensely personal, lively rather than gloomy, full of literary and historical relish, and a completely glorious read.

Anne McCaffrey, David Eddings, and Robert Jordan were all high school favorites (and they are wonderful) but by the time I had reached the age that I was supposed to be reading their books, my palette was fairly jaded. This was a very profound read, where my emotions cycled between many, ranging from the darkest depths to lighter shades of hope and laughter. Falling Angels begins in 1969 with a trio of sisters driving their drunken father to the funeral of their mother.

I pinpointed the time when the cemetery’s fortunes began to shift to the first years of the twentieth century, and so I set the novel then. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal.
