Stark's alcoholism was revisited in later storylines, and remains a defining element of the character. Stark attempts to escape Hammer's compound by climbing over a wall, but sees that he is on a giant floating island at sea. It's certainly not a light story, but it has a lot of humor and some of the jokes actually made me laugh. There is a stupid part that did make me laugh, for some reason he decides to wrestle the little fat man. Iron Man faces his most untouchable foe in criminal industrialist Justin Hammer and his literal army of super villians!

I thought about removing a star for that, but it's such a good book across the board that I decided not to do. A great premise, unfortunately we get only glimpses of Tony's alcohol problem in most of the time and only the last issue dives deep into it. When Stark awakens he is confronted by Justin Hammer, who reveals that he has been responsible for Iron Man's armor malfunctions. Latta of Pulp and Dagger praised Michelinie for "deliver[ing] smart writing and plausible, grown up characters that are a pleasure to read and a rich tapestry of plot threads" and "avoid[ing] the preachy, holier-than-thou route, and instead just tell[ing] a story that happens to concern a costumed super-hero getting a little.There are some parts that are good but overall it just feels like a bloated mess, Tony isn't really an alcoholic throughout the whole thing. Coincidentally, Namor is also there and he has been saved by the only inhabitant of the island, a man who left the big city with his wife, to live in this island by themselves. This book however, is seven issues of Iron Man dealing with Justin Hammer and some super villains, getting stressed, having a drink once or twice, and then going full alcoholic in one issue. Stark is failing to take on either of these problems well and as he fails his dependency on alcohol becomes stronger which causes him to make even more bad decisions that could have been easily-solved if he was sober. I will say that even though it was a slow burn, I felt that watching Tony's life slowly dissolve around him, causing him to run away and hide through the use of alcohol was really well done.

Likewise, being drunk as Tony Stark also makes it hard to stay alert at what is happening all around him and one key drunken blow-up comes back to cost him dearly. By the mid-‘90s Tony was actively going to Alcoholics Anonymous, and later became a sponsor for Carol Danvers. His armor malfunctions again, causing him to fire a repulsor blast at the ambassador and leaving him dead.It is very much a story of its time in the dialogue, but making the main character struggle like this and have his normal life so taken apart by addiction despite supposedly being so powerful is interesting. My favourite issue was the last one however, I don't think that it would have been quite as good if we hadn't seen Tony's struggle.
