I loved every moment of this book, and it was an easy 4 stars for me. I am very hopeful that there will be more books in this wonderful series.

While this book does come after DAUGHTER OF THE PIRATE KING and DAUGHTER OF THE SIREN QUEEN, and contains spoilers for it, it is a standalone story rather than the third book in a trilogy. Some characters return from the original duology, though (nicely) the focus of those books are hardly in this book, giving Sorinda, Kearan, and the new characters more space.

One of the reasons I never got into Throne of Glass is because - even at age 11/12 - I felt very strongly that any character who was billed to me as a cutthroat assassin should, at some point, actually be a cutthroat assassin. This particular book opens with 18-year-old Sorinda Veshtas murdering an entire house of people, so we can safely say she's got cutthroat assassination in spades. Wait, I thought the SHADOWS companion novel was coming out in summer 2023? It was. The sales team has made some adjustments. Do they expect us monsters to announce ourselves? It's as easy and fast to read as the original duology but I'd would've liked more of the romance aspect to develop. I also would've liked if the artifacts would've been a bit more explored. That part seemed a bit rushed. I also wouldn't have said no to more Alosa and Riden but Sorinda was a great main character so I can live without it. Sadly, I really dislike the cover.
