Originally released as standalone graphic novels, The Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins Library Edition Volume 1 is an inaugural, oversized collection of the backstory of some of Critical Role C ampaign 2 ’s beloved characters. Before Mollymauk became part of the ragtag crew of misfits featured in the tabletop roleplaying game actual play series, he was a performer at a travelling carnival. Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins – Mollymauk Tealeaf was co-created by Jody Houser, Talesin Jaffe, Matthew Mercer – the worldbuilder and dungeon master for Critical Role campaign two - Hunter Severn Bonyun, Cathy Le and Ariana Maher.

Due to the 2021–2022 global supply chain crisis and unidentified circumstances with creative teams, all Critical Role titles were delayed, and The Mighty Nein Origins: Yasha Nydoorin was initially pushed to June 21, 2022 [2] and postponed multiple times again. It was written by Cecil Castellucci with line art by William Kirkby, color by Diana Sousa, and lettering by Ariana Maher, developed with direction by Ashley Johnson and Matthew Mercer. The group also partnered for Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins, which similarly told the origin stories of a previous cast of characters. However, they wanted the approval of Yasha's adoptive mother, and when the Skyspear was planning to pair Zuala with another member of the tribe, Zuala decided they should reveal their relationship to the matriarch.But nobody--least of all Bren himself--could foresee the cruelty he endured, and the ways in which it would break and remake him. Witness the events that transform Bren into the Mighty Nein's Caleb Widogast, and how they'll inform the path he'll take in the future. However, the grief within her remained, and eventually she stumbled upon a ruined temple of the Stormlord, who accepted her, becoming her protection, refuge, and strength.
