Unlike other chocolate bars, I don’t find H!P’s chocolate to be overly sugary. Instead, the fun flavours and crunchy textures of the bar are the real star of the show. Following the announcement of Cadbury’s first vegan-certified chocolate, Plant Bar, we have been itching to get our hands on it! ⁠

We simply wanted it to be perfect. And, just as with plants, perfection takes time. But the Cadbury Plant Bar is finally ready. Following its launch in 2021, Cadbury’s Plant Bar has somehow found itself in my shopping trolley most weeks. I can’t get enough of the subtle nutty flavour you get in every bite thanks to the almond paste. Although a salted caramel flavour is available, the Smooth Chocolate is my favourite of the Plant Bars. The company’s latest offering has been forged at its Global Centre of Excellence for Chocolate Research and Development in Bournville, and retains the classic creamy taste from Cadbury by replacing the milk with almond paste. My top 3 favourite truffle flavours include Rhubarb & Vanilla Fool, Fine De Champagne, and Almond Salted Caramel. The Smooth flavour has a much creamier mouthfeel that melts perfectly on the tongue. Interestingly, Cadbury’s Plant Bar is Couverture chocolate, meaning it has higher levels of cocoa butter to give the bar a high gloss.

The Vegan Society recently found that one in five people had reduced the amount of meat they were eating since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, and one in 10 had minimised their egg and dairy intake. Each truffle is coated with a bitter cocoa dusting and has an indulgent, creamy chocolate centre. Each flavoured truffle brings a different sensation.

Its price compared to its size may not be justifiable for some. But believe me, if you’re able to enjoy a bar of Oat M’lk every now and then, you’ll feel much for it. Accompanying the announcement of its new vegan chocolate bars, Cadbury issued an apology to plant-based Brits for taking so long to produce them. Diet Plant Bars provides approximately 16g of quality protein with less than 3g of sugar, and impressively, less than 199 calories in a delicious tasting, plant based protein bar. To accompany this, Diet Plant Bar also contains L-Carnitine and Green Tea Extract which supports fat loss and aids the maintenance of a lean physique. My favourite of the three, the Rhubarb & Vanilla Fool truffle, brings an instant tang to your palette and finishes with a subtle creamy taste.

Personally, I find this gives the bars the most realistic milk chocolate flavour and texture as it allows the flavour of the cocoa to shine. The Nutty Choc Balls are my favourite from the brand, followed by their Milk Choc Cream Wafer Bars. The nutty balls are coated in the brand’s signature ‘M:lk’ chocolate and slathered with hazelnut pieces.

The new bar - which is said to have 'the smoothness and a similar taste to Cadbury Dairy Milk with a hint of nuttiness' has been developed by owner Mondelēz International’s Global Centre of Excellence for Chocolate Research and Development in Bournville. I know that the price of Vego may be hefty, but for me, the impeccable taste, quality, and size of this chocolate justifies it. Vego’s chocolate bars are wrapped in a compostable wrapper, cementing their aim to support animals, the environment, and human rights. It is available in two flavours, Smooth Chocolate and Smooth Chocolate with Salted Caramel pieces, the bars are suitable for vegans and are registered by the Vegan Society. Mondelez says the move is a response to the growing mainstream demand for plant-based foods. It first revealed that plans were underway to create a vegan versions of its Dairy Milk bar last year, saying it wanted to “provide people with greater choice”.

What’s more, LoveRaw has launched a variety of vegan treats including peanut butter cups, a range of wafer bars, and most recently, their Nutty Choc Balls (think Ferrero Rocher).
