I published a number of articles based on the thesis, including ones on the City Elections Act (1725), the Sheriffs controversy and (a new approach to) City politics from Shaftesbury to Wilkes: see my Published work for details. An Act for reviveing the Judicature for determination of Differences touching Houses burnt downe and demolished by reason of the late Fire, which happened in London, and for rebuilding of the Navy Office. Cat/Jane is still spiky and determined, but her cat-like distrust of people relaxes a little, while Marwood’s guilt over his father and his struggles after being badly injured make it easy to warm to him. Professor Tidmarsh will explain how a six section Act of Parliament set up the Fire Courts which unclogged the Courts and succeeded in resolving a tsunami of disputes in a remarkably short time. It’s something you’d expect to see in a palace rather than a small parish church in Worcestershire – another echo of Witley Court’s glory days.
