In today’s blog post, I’m recapping my experience at Iceland Noir 2022, including a day-by-day recap of the festival, lots of photos, a rundown of the books I took home from the festival, and more!

The perfect family, the perfect life all comes crashing down when Joe becomes involved in a missing person’s case that leads to a police investigation where Joe becomes the main suspect of foul play. Would a dynamic businessman with his own highly profitable company really go off the radar as it appears that Ben has? There was a nice little extra twist at the end though that I did enjoy so in the end I still thought the book was good but could have been a bit better to me.

If you like psychological thrillers that are both relatable and compelling, I can assure you that this one will keep you turning those pages. Ben is animated and plainly angry, pointing his finger at Mel, “his voice a barely controlled growl. The response he gets is both aggressive and cryptic and, what was supposed to be a simple inquiry, quickly escalates into a conflict. It has since won a Nielsen Bestseller Award and been made into a four-part TV drama starring Jill Halfpenny (currently available on Netflix UK). Logan’s inclusion of plot twists involving and illustrating the inherent danger of social media provide an opportunity for Joe’s observations about the “compulsion to share every event, every emotion, every success, every random thought, every half-funny conversation.Taking a little detour at the request of his son, who sees Mommy’s car on the road and wants to follow it, which of course, Joe does.

Viewed through this lens, social media really does become quite disturbing; after all, just as Joe can easily be tracked and targeted on his social media accounts, so too could most of us. All he knows is that her actions have brought someone dangerous into their livessomeone obsessed with her and determined to tear Joes world apart. By the time I finished the book I felt there were more positive things about the story than negative.but it did truly make you think about social media and how much that has altered today society and our perceptions. I enjoyed the adorable child in this book who had a ‘part’ in LIFE WAS NEVER THE SAME AGAIN for his family when one night the child spotted “mummy’s car”.
