The controls on the shotgun are really well designed. Unlike with other Receivers, you won't need any pins because it can easily switch between modes using just your fingers. The new product is a step up from the rest, as it offers you an on/off switch for your battery so that during conversation you don't have to interrupt what's being said with another person. This way we can still hear each other clearly while talking without having worry about listening positively or negatively judging someone else's point-of view because they were not able to talk yet. Running the MKE 600 on a 1 x AA battery compared to 48V phantom power results in a lower output level but retains the characteristics that become more pronounced, the closer to the MKE 600 you are. It certainly handles further distances much better than the smaller MKE 200, with even 2m away still sounding pretty good with low to minimal noise once you’ve cranked up the gain. While the MKE 600 and 200 cater to different needs and it would be unfair to directly compare them to one another, it serves as a reference to the Sennheiser MKE 600’s ability to handle more complex environments with less dramatic falloff the further away you are from the mic. Hey Art, the shotgun I currently use a Rode NTG-3. As Howard has described, this is is Rode's answer to the venerable 416. It's not as good, but pretty close at roughly half the price. With a 10 year warranty! I also have a ME66, but rarely use it these days, except as an audience ambiance/applause mic.

I agree Benton. But Ash said he has not the budget for a NTG3 and as the Audix is in the same price range, the Audix won't do it too. This mic is such a great deal that every videographer should have it in their arsenal. You may eventually want to add some hypercardioids and a medium shotgun too, so you can be technically prepared for everything. Nevertheless, when it comes to short shotguns Sennheiser MKE 600 is the deal. Of course, it is more expensive than other entry-level models, but you get the performance. Better are only professional shotguns, but they’ll cost you minimum 3 times as much, and will require a good source of phantom power. Pros All the little annoyances that we've had with NTG-2 and AT897 are simply not there in MKE 600. One reason why I love this product so much is because you can have it sit right on top of your preamp, router table or even next to where ever work happens most frequently without worrying about getting buzzes from other electronics.Sorry Benton, but I've got to qualify here. This statement, and those that have stated this previously in this thread, is simply wrong. To say you can't use shotgun mics for interior work, simply isn't true. The mic is very quiet with no discernible onboard noise. It rejects noise from the side and rear very well.

In fact, in 90% of the documentary work I do, a shotgun is the best mic for isolating a person speaking (impromptu) when surrounded by other ambient noise; an office, a factory, a server room, workshop etc, regardless of whether it's interior or exterior. The MKE600 sounds like a 416 at 18" and a 66 at 36". The proximity effect is very strong and at different distances make it sound like two completely different mics. I would avoid it.If you're looking to buy yourself some professional tools - whether we're talking about recording equipment like headphones and monitors; interface boxes which connect various devices together so they can share data like FTP. The MKE 200 is in line with entry-level budget onboard mic options, benefitting from the Sennheiser professional lineup in design and sound. It lets through low-end frequencies and comes to life in a vlog or close proximity setup. It’s compact, lightweight, and pleasant to look at, which makes the Sennheiser MKE 200 a great all-around choice.The 416 is THE short shotgun that all others have been and will be compared to, my untrained ear can't tell the difference between this mic and the NTG 3. Ideally the output impedance of a device should be one tenth the input impedance of the device you plug it into for the best sound.

Why can't I get the adjustable volume Headset outlet to work? I have tried setting the ATEM to line and mic with a very loud hum and no usable sound.

I don't use the battery option for phantom power. Instead I rely on the phantom power provided by my interface. I recommend an interface with a solid preamp. Obviously lesser quality preamps are going to impact your potential for quality sound from the mic. Ce sont deux micros fort identique en terme de qualité sonore et de fabrication, mais mon choix ses porté sur le MKE 600 pour les raisons suivantes: Sure, there are situations where a shotgun won't capture what you need at an interior location, but there are many situations where it's the ONLY mic that will capture what you need. It really comes down to the type of situation and/or location. What is/are the sound source/s? What is the ambient noise? etc etc La batterie rechargeable du ntg4+ peut sembler un atout pour les tournage, mais je suis encore méfiant sur ce qui est des batteries rechargeables (sur les micros), sachant que a forcer de les charger-décharger cela peux vraiment diminuer la durée de vie de celle-ci. Comme je n'enregistrer que sur un enregistreur externe avec une alimentation Phantom, pas besoin de batterie intégré.
