Seth is a terrific exemplar of the eternal teenage desire for there to be, in the words of the novel's title, "more than this" – more than a world in which prejudice and hypocrisy dictate how people should or shouldn't live their lives. As Ness has said, all teenagers feel alone and misunderstood, "even the popular ones". This is brought into much sharper relief for young people like Seth, sometimes – as in this story – with tragic consequences. Seth is a survivor, though, and turns out to be emotionally strong enough to demonstrate that what remains of us all is love. And yes, Ness is very, very good at endings, too – this one has a corker. I might just have to start a collection of his last lines, as well as his first. This book was wonderful, SO close to being five full stars. If you want a book that will mess your mind up, then this is the book for you. Really enjoyed it, would highly recommend. This book will make you question everything you know. This book is so thought-provoking, and a book that will take your brain on a roller coaster. This would make one hell of a movie. The book also focuses on two other characters which Seth becomes friends with, they are a boy called Tomasz and a girl called Regine. They both are quite wary about revealing their past but over time Regine becomes more open but Tomasz, who is suggested to have a worse past does not open up until then end of the book at a crucial moment. Haven't you ever felt like there has to be more? Like there's more out there somewhere, just beyond your grasp, if you could only get to it... (c)
