To show the entire journey to the Earth’s core at once we need to spread the book out on the floor and both sides together measure about 5 metres long.

The interconnection of the Earth's systems and the manner in which human activities can have an impact on the ecosystem are also highlighted. The illustrations enables all children to see what is happening in relation to what the author is explaining within the book, providing a strong correlation between the pictures and the words.Then comes an invitation to “take a peek” and our journey to the centre of the earth – continuing through the earth’s core, popping out on the other side – has begun. The children look at the vocabulary associated with the underground and earth and retrieve information as well as start to make some simple inferences. The book gives lots of overall visuals that I think would be helpful for students to see before they learn about the details. This is a great book for me because I have always wanted to learn about what is beneath the surface of the earth. The descent into the ground and the ascent back to the surface cover different information, so there’s always something new to read about.

Children are introduced to a variety of scientific ideas in the book, including plate tectonics, volcanoes, earthquakes, and fossils. And its fold-out, 'laperello' style, which extends to eight feet in length, is ideal for spreading out on the floor to pore over for hours. It contains a wealth of information about geology and science, and opportunities for further questions from curious young minds. I made my own model text to include different features I wanted to emphasise, and changed the emphasis to include more about volcanoes and the layers of the Earth that we have been doing in geography.

The diagrams presented allow for a visual so that the students are able to picture the things that are beneath the streets and that it is happening beneath the streets. Yuval and Charlotte’s follow-up title, The Skies Above My Eyes, continues with the innovative concertina format of their first book, this time looking up at the sky and universe above us. D) I would use this book during a science lesson because it uses lots of vocabulary that would be knowledgable during this subject area.This book would directly relate to the science concept and would give the teacher an amazing opportunity to integrate reading into the science lesson. maybe a final page summarizing some really interesting or surprising or dogma-challenging discoveries? A beautiful fold-out book that showcases the wonders of the earth beneath our feet and one with real wow-factor.
