For the books, the Gibbons names appear before Coogans in the credits and on the front cover of the books so my guess would be its the Gibbons doing the bulk of the writing for the books and Coogan has more of a script editor role. These audiobooks are getting better and better… I’ve only ever listened to the audiobooks but I’d imagine Steve’s performance is half of the enjoyment of these books.

But could Steve Coogan make the jump without sacrificing the essential 'Alan-ness' of the character?

Certainly never thought those jokes were Coogan giving a real opinion like when Alan talks about the Daily Mail or Jeremy Clarkson.
